Rocker and one-time White House guest Ted Nugent said Thursday he stands by his 2016 comment that Hillary Clinton should be tried and hanged for treason for her response to the 2012 terror attacks in Benghazi.

“I’ve never threatened to hang anybody. I’ve never suggested anybody get hung, except the one time after Benghazi, I recommended that Hillary Clinton be charged, arrested, tried and hung,” Nugent said in an interview Wednesday with conservative radio host Ben Ferguson. “What she did as secretary of state was certainly treasonous, and I stand by that.”

Ferguson asked Nugent to respond to the accusations of a double standard at the White House and among Republicans after comedian Kathy Griffin posted a photo earlier this week of her holding President Trump’s severed head.

Many Republicans and Democrats criticized Griffin for the photo and called for her to be fired from her New Year’s Eve hosting gig on CNN.

But, Democrats pointed to Nugent’s past statements about Clinton and former President Barack Obama as evidence of what they said was the White House’s hypocrisy.

Nugent, a gun rights activist, has a history of making hateful comments about Obama, some of which prompted an investigation from the Secret Service. Nugent attended a dinner with Trump at the White House earlier this year as a guest of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

Griffin has since apologized for the photo and requested the photographer take it down. She was fired from her CNN role on Wednesday.
