An Open Letter To Senator Gravel Regarding Bernie Sanders and the National Citizens Initiative For Democracy

Dear Senator Gravel:

I just finished listening to your fabulous interview with Kevin Barrett at Veterans Today.
http://www.veteranstodaylive.com/2016/08/19/452169/ It is dated August 19th but
apparently was recorded back in early June. This is the first time I saw it at VT.

Your talk was so comprehensive and “right on” that it inspired me to go back and look
at the e-mail you sent me on February 22nd in response to my essay asking what will
the Sanders voters do if he loses the election. https://stateofthenation2012.com/?p=32036

At that time you attached your essay about how a successful Sanders campaign
would still require him to enact “Structural Reform” in order to insure that his political
“revolution” would be able to empower the people by transcending the limitations of
representative government.

Unlike you, I never was a fan of Sanders and wrote many essays expressing my doubts about his legitimacy. Sadly, I was correct in my assessment as your comments to Barrett in June indicated when you said his future endorsement of Hillary would be “business as usual!”

As Stephen Lendman points out in his withering criticism of Sanders new projects including “Our Revolution” it appears there are others who agree with my views. Bernie Sanders Dubious ‘Our Revolution’ Initiative

Being correct about bad news is quite unsatisfying since it leaves the problems that one
is talking about unresolved. That is the case now with Sanders having lost, Hillary on
the verge of making “Herstory” and Trump doing a few things right while at the same time
undermining his populist image with stupid comments and globalist advisers like Giuliani.

I applaud your boldness and courage in speaking truth to power in your Barrett interview.
It shows you remain one of only a few public servants willing to take on the military
industrial complex and national security state while encouraging “we the people” to
assert their rights.

But with Obama caught in the Middle East malaise and not wanting to be the one who “lost Syria” or be seen as weak against Russia in Ukraine much less China in the South China Sea, we have entered treacherous waters with little prospect for the kind of change envisioned in your proposal to institute the NCID. http://www.ncid.us/

That leaves us in a very precarious situation in terms of the potential to empower citizens
to trigger change by acting as legislators. I believe there is a high likelihood of some sort
of breakdown in the near future including the prospect of a suspended or cancelled election in 2016.

You have invested so much time and energy promoting a higher vision for our citizenry by
inviting them to take back their power in the face of massive government corruption. Both
your plan and mine for a new political party designed to achieve peace are faced with new
barriers to success in light of these developments. https://stateofthenation2012.com/?p=32281

It is my sincere wish that we can find a way forward that will help us overcome these tragic
developments, avoid more wars and succeed in establishing a political regime designed to
implement the long-promised “peace dividend” by promoting livingry rather than weaponry.

Warm regards to you and Whitney.

Sincerely, Rich Scheck
