President Trump is being criticized over comments he made during a speech in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he accused Democrats of being “treasonous” and “un-American.”

Here’s what he said in context:

“So that means they would rather see Trump do badly,” he told the audience, “OK, than our country do well. That’s what it means, it’s very selfish.”

Trump was referring to Democrats who sat on their hands during his State of the Union speech, and would not stand or applaud when he lauded some of his accomplishments, including the growth in the stock market and historically low African-American and Hispanic unemployment rates.

“And it got to a point where I even really didn’t want to look too much, during the speech, over to that side, because honestly, it was bad energy,” he continued, “no it was bad energy.”

“You’re up there, you got half the room going totally crazy, wild, they love everything,” he added, “they want to do something great for our country, and you have the other side, even on positive news, really positive news like that.”

“They were like death,” he said. “And un-American, un-American.”

“Somebody said treasonous,” he added, “I mean, yeah I guess, why not. Can we call that treason, why not?”

“I mean they certainly didn’t seem to love our country very much,” he concluded. “But you look at that, and it’s really very sad.”
