Despite it all, things are looking up!
With all the bad news these days, including the potential confrontation
between the United States and Russia, we wake up this morning to

As someone who spent many years promoting the peaceful uses of
outer space, I am very pleased to hear that the two space powers
have decided to put aside their terrestrial differences here on Mother
Earth and work together in the more ethereal realm of Space.
With this news, things literally are looking up. The view of Earth (Gaia,
Terra Firma, Urantia) from space provides a unique platform for countries
that are confronting themselves down here to see how they share common
ground (or should I say space?) that requires joint action for progress.
This off-planet or transnational perspective was often described by those
few astronauts and cosmonauts who had a chance to venture ad astra
(to the stars) as triggering the deeply spiritual Overview Effect that Frank
White gave voice to many years ago in his book with that title.

The shift in consciousness experienced by some of these voyagers is consistent
with more advanced seekers of enlightenment including the mystics and religious
disciples we are familiar with (Jesus, Buddha, Dalai Lama, etc).
At this dark time of crisis between nations, races and religions, the news that
potential adversaries are cooperating in space can serve as inspiration to those
of us still constrained by the bonds of gravity to let our imagination soar in the
pursuit of peace on Earth and goodwill to our fellow travelers across the globe.
Hopefully, Presidents Trump and Putin can transcend all the resistance to
their cooperating generated by the 2016 US election after all! The proposed
Space Station orbiting the Moon is a good place to start.
