A Democratic state senator in Missouri on Thursday hoped for President Donald Trump’s assassination in a Facebook post that was later deleted — and she rebuked calls to quit by saying that “there’s no way in hell that I’m resigning.”
State Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal, 42, responded to a Facebook poster’s comment on possibly being visited by the Secret Service by saying: “No I will. I hope Trump is assassinated.”
Her comments, coming on the heels of President Trump’s remarks on the Charlottesville violence, were reported by KMOX-AM in St. Louis.
Chappelle-Nadal was first elected to the Senate in 2010 after serving six years in the Missouri House.
Her Facebook statement were saved and posted on Twitter by the station’s Mark Reardon:

The Secret Service office in St. Louis told KMOX that it took Chappelle-Nadal’s comment very seriously.
In an interview later Thursday with the station’s Carol Daniel, Chappelle-Nadal said that she would apologize “when the president apologizes.
“I’m not apologizing for being frustrated and angry at the bigot that we have in our White House.
On whether she would resign, Chappelle-Nadal said: “Absolutely not. That’s ridiculous.”
She also posted these tweets:
Hate and bigotry should not be tolerated. Period. There are so many citizens who are hurting because of 45. He's made our communities unsafe

I am not resigning. When POC are respected by this WH & they are willing to do real work, I'll sit down with them. People are traumatized! https://t.co/rmsL4pQSTg

Missouri Democratic Party Chair Stephen Webber called for the senator’s resignation.
“State Senator Chappelle-Nadal’s comments are indefensible,” he said in a statement. “All sides need to agree that there is no room for suggestions of political violence in America — and the Missouri Democratic Party will absolutely not tolerate calls for the assassination of the president.
“I believe she should resign,” he said.
Democratic U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill also called for Chappelle-Nadal to step down.
“I condemn it,” she said of the statement. “It’s outrageous.
“She should resign.”
