In the wake of the failed effort to repeal and replace Obamacare, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee is calling for a repeal of the 17th Amendment, which would dramatically change the way senators are elected.
Huckabee’s comments came in an early Friday morning tweet:
Time to repeal 17th Amendment. Founders had it right-Senators chosen by state legislatures. Will work for their states and respect 10th amid

The amendment, ratified in 1913, set up the popular election of senators, The Hill noted. Until then, senators had been elected by state legislatures.
Republicans had failed to push through the “skinny repeal” of Obamacare after GOP Sens. John McCain of Arizona, Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski joined Democrats in voting against it.
And Huckabee, a Republican, singled out the three senators in another tweet:
CNN reports Dems will give Lifetime Achievement Award to Murkowski Collins and McCain. Schumer so happy he cried.
