Manhattan federal prosecutor Andrew D. Goldstein will leave his post in early July to join special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into claims Russia meddled in the U.S. 2016 presidential election, The New York Times reported Friday.

Goldstein led the public corruption unit for about a year, the article stated, and his former work as a line prosecutor in 2015 won the conviction of Manhattan Democrat Sheldon Silver, speaker of the State Assembly.

He will be the first prosecutor from the U.S. attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York to serve on Mueller’s team. That office is known for going after public corruption as well as white-collar crime and Wall Street fraud, according to the Times.

Goldstein, 43, has also worked on money laundering and asset forfeiture cases.

“The special counsel is lucky to be getting Andrew,” said Joon H. Kim, acting U.S. attorney in Manhattan, in an email to the staff.
