“American Standoff”: The Modern Day Ruby Ridge

We just finished watching Part One of the new documentary about the battle between western American ranchers and the Federal Government/Bureau of Land Management. The Hammonds, the Bundies, LaVoy Finicum and multiple occupiers were in the news a great deal in the past few years.

As expected, the mas media made up their own version of the events to fuel the flames of hysteria and violence.

I already knew the story and wasn’t sure what to expect from a televised documentary, but I was pleased to see varied perspectives on what happened and why. They did an excellent job of explaining the history of the battles, as well.

It was surprisingly well balanced and they left out some gruesome, highly incriminating visual details as to how the feds behaved, such as wrangling cattle out into the desert where they died of thirst, so they spared us some of the disturbing images we saw as the stories unfolded on the Internet, but they did show the murder of LaVoy Finicum, who the feds shot three times in the back while his hands were in the air, and the terrorizing of the other three people in the vehicle that the feds shot at for several minutes and gassed.

The treatment of the ranchers is deplorable, and a reader (thanks, C) shared an update that makes it sound as though the shadow government is not finished making an example of those who speak out and defend their rights against tyranny. We’ve heard how the ranchers were brutalized in jail.

Some independent news sources suggested that the illegal appropriation of land in the western states was most probably a case of the rogue federal government, in particular Reid and Hillary Clinton, who sought to sell it for their own purposes for the mineral rights i.e. gold, or uranium to the Russians via a Uranium One operation in Canada. I have a feeling Russia will not honour that purchase and will leave the lands as is.
