Two black cable news commentators threw racial slurs back and forth via Twitter on Tuesday after one of them called black Trump supporters “mediocre Negroes.”
Marc Lamont Hill, an analyst for CNN, started the war of words on Monday night during a panel discussion on “CNN Tonight with Don Lemon.”
Hill said Trump is bringing black people into his administration who are big names but have little or no expertise in the area they are tapped for.
“I love Steve Harvey and I have respect for Steve Harvey, and I think his intentions were appropriate,” Hill said of the comedian and talk and game show host picked by Trump to aid on inner city housing issues. “But my disagreement is the way in which he’s being used by folk like Donald Trump.”
“They keep bringing up comedians and and actors athletes to represent black interests,” Hill said. “It’s demeaning, it’s disrespectful, and it’s condescending. Bring some people up there with expertise Donald Trump, don’t just bring up people to entertain.”
Bruce LeVell, who is on Trump’s diversity coalition, responded, “You weren’t even there… Pastor Darryl Scott, Mike Cohen, they are in the process of bringing all types of people from all over the country, from all different backgrounds. Remember the diversity coalition where we reached out to all different types of people?”
“Yeah, it was a bunch of mediocre Negroes being dragged in front of TV as a photo-op for Donald Trump’s exploitative campaign against black people. And you are an example of that,” Hill responded.
That didn’t sit well with Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke, a regular on Fox News Channel, and a fervent Trump supporter. Clarke took his argument to Twitter on Tuesday:
He also said he never called anyone “mediocre” who had supported Trump, only his diversity council.
