CNN has dumped pundit and interim leader of the Democratic National Committee Donna Brazile, saying it’s “completely uncomfortable” with her apparent leaking of a debate question to Hillary Clinton, The Hill reported.
CNN said it accepted Brazile’s resignation on Oct. 14, though her deal with the network was suspended in July when she took over the DNC on an interim basis, Politico reported.
A WikiLeaks dump of Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta’s hacked emails allegedly shows Brazile informing the Clinton campaign of a question that would come from a woman affected by the lead water poisoning in Flint, Michigan.
Brazile allegedly sent the email the day before the Democratic primary debate in Flint in March.
“CNN never gave Brazile access to any questions, prep material, attendee list, background information or meetings in advance of a town hall or debate,” The Hill quoted CNN’s statement. “We are completely uncomfortable with what we have learned about her interactions with the Clinton campaign while she was a CNN contributor.”
Brazile released a statement denying the allegations.
“As a longtime political activist with deep ties to our party, I supported all of our candidates for president. I often shared my thoughts with each and every campaign, and any suggestions that indicate otherwise are simply untrue. As it pertains to the CNN Debates, I never had access to questions and would never have shared them with the candidates if I did,” Brazile said.
Brazile was confronted about the leak in a televised interview with Megyn Kelly of Fox News after the third and final presidential debate.
“You know, as a Christian woman, I understand persecution, but I will not sit here and be persecuted because your information is totally false,” Brazile said to Kelly during a heated exchange.
