Urgent notice to readers of Global Independent Analytics (GIA)
Joshua Tartakovsky
Global Independent Analytics
When we started Global Independent Analytics in November 2015, the goal was simple: providing accurate, informative analysis on the burning issues of the day and of global events at a time when the corporate media owned by biased interests with a personal stake in events developing in a certain way, is failing to accurately reflect developments that are happening in around the world, let alone offer a deep analysis. I never censored my writers, they had full freedom to express their insights and opinions. Furthermore, nowadays when a third world war is looming over our heads and when we are facing chaos in various countries, I believed our work to be essential and urgent.
However, in running the portal I encountered hurdles, placed in our way by those who fear independent media.
GIA found it very difficult in more than several instances to transfer as little as 100 euros to our writers via respectable and well-known money transfer companies (both in sending and in picking it up; the justifications given were not very satisfying). GIA faced constant DDoS attacks. Some of our writers were harassed in their countries by the authorities (ironically often countries which are on their way to becoming EU states or EU member states) or even faced the danger of imprisonment or worse. Our email server was taken down for weeks, making it impossible us to operate and for me to receive submissions.
What I came to realize is that we are living in very dangerous times when just providing a portal which will provide perspectives of various writers from various backgrounds, means that such a portal will come under attack and that some of our writers may face very grave dangers. Many steps were taken to prevent us from operating and things got to the point where it became impossible for GIA to continue.
As a result of the constant hurdles we faced and due to the growing personal risk involved in offering credible, accurate analysis on what is taking place, I was forced to take the decision to freeze GIA for now. In my opinion, the pressures and threats we faced reveal now more than ever how important independent journalism is. Indeed, it has the power to awaken people and inform them, which, nowadays, is a dangerous activity. If our work which did not serve a particular agenda besides informing the public has become risky and difficult, then things are really getting bad, we are feeling the heat, and now more than ever people need to start asking tough questions regarding the realities we are facing and question the narratives we are being fed by the corporate media.
Although GIA will no longer operate, due to my commitment to independent journalism and to the power of knowledge, I intend to continue through other means with my work. Please stay tuned.
With sadness and best wishes, Joshua Tartakovsky!
