Urgent Issues: War With Russia and China vs. Climate Change
by Rich Scheck
The West’s approach to dealing with Russia and China by threats and bullying—
including the use of first-strike nuclear weapons—makes the issue of Climate Change
seem almost trivial by comparison.
Even stipulating that the Pope’s Encyclical has it right about the need for Sustainability to
reduce the danger of carbon gases and other things effecting the climate, the US/NATO
Asian Pivot and threat to the Russia-China Alliance (The New Silk Road, AIIB, BRICS, etc.) constitutes a far more immediate danger to humanity.
As the two writers below demonstrate in their essays, Western belligerence has replaced
co-operation while propaganda is substituted for sound public policy.
With “push almost coming to shove” in various hot zones like in Ukraine, the South China
Sea, North Africa, the Middle East and elsewhere, the race towards direct confrontation
and possible nuclear war increases daily.
All of us must do our part to prevent this horror from happening. With talk of Prompt Global Strike and “pre-emptive nuclear war” tossed around on a regular basis, psychology of accepting such madness erodes the common sense of all decent folks who are repelled by the thought of such an occurrence.
If Pepe Escobar is correct that it is “5 seconds to midnight” what could be more urgent than that?
