Carly Fiorina: Apple’s Tim Cook a Hypocrite on Indiana Law

Likely GOP presidential candidate Carly Fiorina has slammed what she considers the hypocrisy of her former Silicon Valley colleague, Apple CEO Tim Cook, who has spoken out against the divisive Indiana religious freedom legislation, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Fiorina, herself a former Hewlett Packard CEO, says Cook has been selective in his outcry against Indiana in what she describes as a “ginned-up controversy by people who play identity politics that has divided the nation in a way that is really unhelpful.”

She told the Journal on Thursday in an exclusive sit-down interview: “When Tim Cook is upset about all the places that he does business because of the way they treat gays and women, he needs to withdraw from 90 percent of the markets that he’s in, including China and Saudi Arabia. But I don’t hear him being upset about that.”

Fiorina is speaking out on social issues close to the right as she begins an early exploration of a presidential bid. She said she would support a federal amendment banning same-sex marriage but declined to weigh in on states’ rights to ban such a union if they chose, the Journal noted.

“My view is irrelevant because the Supreme Court is going to decide that,” Fiorina told the Journal.

The outspoken former executive told Fox News on Sunday that there was a higher than 90 percent chance that she would make a presidential run.

Cook, in responding to the Indiana controversy, called pro-discrimination religious freedom laws “dangerous” in a column he wrote for The Washington Post.

“These bills rationalize injustice by pretending to defend something many of us hold dear. They go against the very principles our nation was founded on, and they have the potential to undo decades of progress toward greater equality,” Cook wrote.
