President Donald Trump will vow to ignore demands during the House impeachment inquiry unless Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., holds an official vote, therefore forcing vulnerable 2020 Democrats to put their name on impeachment, Axios reports.
“They want to be a little bit pregnant,” a source said of Democrats investigating impeachment without holding a vote to do so.
The White House is preparing a letter to Pelosi to dare her to hold a vote to start an inquiry she had already announced before receiving a transcript of the Ukraine call or the whistleblower complaint. The letter has been drafted by not yet signed as of Thursday night, according to Axios sources.
Regardless of the Democrats’ response to the letter reportedly to be delivered to the speaker Friday, President Trump and those involved in the impeachment inquiry are likely to take the battle over House subpoenas to court, per the report.
Assuming impeachment efforts fail, President Trump is expected to campaign for re-election against Democratic resistance, endless investigation, deep state witch hunts, and presidential harassment – all claims he frequently makes via Twitter.
Pelosi argued there “is no requirement under the Constitution, under House Rules, or House precedent that the whole House vote before proceeding with an impeachment inquiry,” in a letter Thursday to House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif.
“For several decades, impeachment investigations have frequently been conducted without a full vote,” Pelosi spokeswoman Ashley Etienne reportedly told Axios.
