NYPD Chief Kills Himself Just Days Before Retirement

NEW YORK — Deputy Chief Steven Silks was pronounced dead from a self inflicted gunshot wound Wednesday evening.
Silks was off-duty and located near Burns Street and 69th Avenue in Queens.
The officer was found sitting in a car suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital by an NYPD car and was listed in critical condition — where he was later pronounced deceased.

Highly credible sources tell Breaking911.com that Silks handed in his retirement papers to the NYPD last night. He was scheduled to retire at the end of July after 38 years on the job.

Silks was not married and had no children.
He reportedly had pleaded with uppper brass for a promotion to two-star chief for the past three years.
