By its continuing failure to relentlessly oppose America’s
unending wars, the left is fully complicit in the evils associated
with our imperial wars and crimes against humanity.
For as long as I can remember, I have been embarrassed by
those who celebrate themselves as liberals, progressives and of
“the left!”
That is primarily because of the failure of these left-leaning people
to be sufficiently anti-war in the face of America’s unending imperialism
and wars of aggression.
These “progressives” seem comfortable with saving the environment,
endangered animals and gays along with providing free health care and
education for the disadvantaged while their country bombs nation
after nation into oblivion.
This apparent trade-off between the welfare state left and the warfare
state right has led to the creation of a quasi-police state at home and
an over-reaching imperium abroad.
Despite Ike’s warning to stop the military-industrial complex, the
national security state has emerged triumphant in the modern era.
This corruption is so vast that the Pentagon cannot account for over
$6.5 Trillion in its budget; $6.5 Trillion………in one year!

Roberts credentials as an articulate voice of opposition to Pax
Americana are impeccable. This former Wall Street Journal editor and
high-level Treasury official who is often called “the Father of Reagonomics”
has been as clear as anyone of any political persuasion in critiquing
the excesses of our failed foreign policy and wasteful rush to war.
How ironic that this creature of the right should bemoan the
disappearance of the anti-war left. But how fitting are his comments
that their absence both undermines their credibility and provides cover
for their hawkish leaders like Obama and the Clintons who abuse
their war making powers the same way the Bush clan did.
We have reached a very ugly moment where this co-option and
silence in the face of endless wars of aggression can only be
described as complicity by the left in America’s war crimes.
The candidacy of “socialist” Bernie Sanders was totally consistent
with what Robert’s is saying: here was a man who postured as a
champion of left causes and yet refused to be an advocate of peace.
Sanders was in a position to transform the political landscape in
2016 had he gone after Hillary Clinton as an unadulterated Neocon
who as First Lady, Senator and Secretary of State engaged in
numerous war-making adventures—all based on lies and all ending
in massive failure!
Yet he gave her a pass on that, on her e-mail scandal which was
directly linked to national security matters and her misuse of her
office to the benefit of the Clinton Foundation.
Sanders further destroyed his credibility by endorsing Hillary for the
presidency despite convincing and compelling evidence that she stole
the nomination from him………all because of the evil Donald Trump.
Ridiculous bull-crap!! In another strange development of this election,
it is Trump who emerges as the “peace” candidate because of his
willingness to avoid WWIII by cooperating with Russia and Putin.

If Hillary wins, the left will be complicit in perpetuating this incredibly
nasty state of affairs. As Roberts states clearly, their voice is badly
needed to prevent the extinction of life we are threatened with today.
As the Swedish doctors cited above write in their essay, the risk
of nuclear war has never been greater as the US and NATO
menace Russia and China as part of Cold War II.
Where is the protest from the anti-war left? Where is the challenge
from the backers of Sanders? How can anyone vote for someone
as irresponsible as Hillary Clinton who describes Putin as the “new
Hitler” for defending Russia’s interest in Ukraine after her friend
Victoria Nuland spent $5 billion to overthrow it for the West?
When has a Democrat even mentioned Obama’s signing the nuke
modernization bill that allocates a TRILLION dollars to upgrade
our nuclear arsenal?
Yes, the left remains silent in all of this except for a few like Tulsi
Gabbard, the women of Code Pink, Cynthia McKinney and Jill Stein.
