America’s Addiction To War

Ike warned us in 1961. Smedley Butler said it in 1934. John Quincy Adams reminded us in 1834 not to go in “search of monsters abroad.” While most of the Founders warned us as well: avoid foreign entanglements!

But power is intoxicating whether you are a full-fledged German fascist, Communist leader, petty Mid-East dictator or president of the United States.

Manifest destiny, American exceptionalism, indispensable nation, the only superpower in a uni-polar world or just plain global Hegemon with the self-declared right to protect citizens of other countries in humanitarian interventions—–these are the delusional terms used by our national security state to justify their behavior after the fall of the Soviet Union.

The post WWII nation I grew up in has morphed into an imperial power under the banner of Pax Americana with the clear intention of imposing its will upon the rest of the world.

Relying on the Neocon philosophy embodied in an End of History mentality, we have over-reached our resources and face financial, political, military and moral bankruptcy. We are the new Evil Empire and today many are Watching Rome Burn: http://www.watchingromeburn.com/

The election of Donald Trump relied on rhetoric designed to reverse that process. But our new president quickly forgot what he said during the campaign and embarked on his own version of the Deep State agenda while seemingly being under attack by those factions within it who strongly resented his uppity ways.

Please ponder the wise words of political activist Bruce Gagnon:
“The role of the U.S. in the new world corporate order is going to be to export security. That means endless wars and weapons in space. The Pentagon will send our kids off to foreign lands to suppress opposition to corporate globalization. How will we ever end America’s addiction to war and violence as long as our communities are dependent on military spending for jobs?”

Then attempt to answer his question after realizing War is the fundamental business model for our economy. It was two-time Congressional Medal of Honor winner Butler who reminded us he was fighting for United Fruit and not the USofA because “War Is A Racket” run by a bunch of Banksters in Washington and New York.

We are currently faced with a monumental task of undoing all the harm caused by the military-industrial complex/Deep State while simultaneously preventing them from doing any more before we are able to drain the swamp.

That crisis continues to deepen as our antagonism towards Russia,China and other powers accelerates in Syria, Ukraine and elsewhere while our financial, political and moral problems worsen at home. http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/47320.htm

Maybe it’s time to consider a different approach like this:

Only a dramatic and unlikely reversal of our misguided ways can save us from a very nasty future in the coming days. Even though it is late in the race between education and the abyss described years ago by H. G. Wells, we need to start now!
Human history becomes more and more a race between education and catastrophe.” -H.G. Wells, The Outline of History
