Trump Slams Schumer For Accusing Him Of ‘Shattering’ Justice System By Firing Comey

FOX News Insider

Late Tuesday, President Trump responded to Sen. Charles Schumer’s (D-New York) criticism of his firing of FBI Director James Comey during a press conference.

Trump responded to Schumer in a tweet, hours after Schumer’s presser.

“Cryin’ Chuck Schumer stated recently, “I do not have confidence in him (James Comey) any longer.” Then acts so indignant,” he tweeted.

Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-New York) slammed President Trump’s decision to fire FBI Director James Comey.

“Mister President, with all due respect, you’re making a big mistake,” Schumer said he told Trump, adding that the president “didn’t really answer” his comment.

“Why now?” Schumer asked during a televised press briefing after the White House announced Comey’s firing.

Schumer said that if Trump objected to Comey’s handling of the Clinton email investigation, he should have taken action sooner.

He said he has questions as to why Comey would be fired after it was found that Russia interfered in the presidential election.

“Were these investigations getting too close to home for the president?” he asked.

Schumer called the firing a “deeply troubling” piece in a pattern of firings that included former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates and former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Preet Bharara.

He put the onus of fixing the reputation of the Department of Justice on former U.S. Attorney for Maryland Rod Rosenstein – who was recently confirmed deputy attorney general – because Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from the Russia investigation.
