Rep. Trey Gowdy: I’ll Subpoena Susan Rice If Necessary
By Jason Devaney
Rep. Trey Gowdy threatened to issue a subpoena to former national security adviser Susan Rice regarding the congressional investigation into Russian interference in last year’s presidential election.
The South Carolina Republican was asked during Thursday’s edition of Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom” about Rice’s decision not to testify in front of a Senate judiciary subcommittee.
“There are things called subpoenas. You shouldn’t have to use it with a former national security adviser but if you do, you do,” Gowdy said. He called Rice, who admitted last month to unmasking the names of Americans caught up in government surveillance reports, a “very important witness” in the case.
Rice said she asked for the names of Americans to be unmasked for intelligence gathering purposes, saying she never did anything for political reasons.
Rice also denied there was direct intelligence collection of anyone in Trump Tower, an allegation made by President Donald Trump himself.
