Trump surrogates say recount could spur Clinton prosecution

With recounts already requested in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, some of Donald Trump‘s surrogates are warning the move could have consequences for Hillary Clinton, reports The Week.

Though the Clinton campaign neither requested nor is funding the reviews, it has said it will participate by sending attorneys, notes Politico.

In a Monday interview on ‘The Steve Malzberg Show,’ Roger Stone, a Trump adviser, said, “Hillary, I think, increases her chances of prosecution by acting this way.”

He also asserted that either Clinton or George Soros is somehow funding the recount effort, but provided no evidence.

According to Politico, “…Kellyanne Conway…also seemed to draw a connection between the recount effort and the prosecution question during a TV interview.”

She told CNN on Sunday that Trump has, “been incredibly gracious and magnanimous to Secretary Clinton at a time when, for whatever reason, her folks are saying they will join in a recount to try to somehow undo the 70-plus electoral votes that he beat her by.”

Notably, that same day, Trump expressed belief that the election had been compromised, writing, “In addition to winning the Electoral College in a landslide, I won the popular vote if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally.”
