Just when some astute observers were predicting Turkey’s rapprochement with Russia meant it might be leaving NATO, its invasion of Northern Syria last week raises serious doubts as to the true intentions of their incursion.
On the one hand you have Michel Chossudovsky and Veterans Today saying the episode
was likely a CIA plan to continue the US led fight against Assad by securing Jarabulus for
the rebel groups opposing the Syrian president as well as neutralizing the Kurds.

On the other hand, Pepe Escobar, James Cobert and Sibel Edmonds believe that Turkey is on the way out of NATO and that the upcoming trip of Erdogan to Tehran will further cement these new relationships.

The matter remains the subject of much speculation and concern especially in light of the
recent Turkish “coup” and other developments in the region including what is happening
in Ukraine, Yemen and Libya.
There is even the real possibility the wily Mr. Putin was fooled by Erdogan and the West:

As predicted by many, the invasion of Iraq in 2003 following the suspicious 9/11 attack in
2001 that was used as a pretext to fight terrorism has led to expansion of the war zone
and what looks like a mini-world war with proxy battles galore.
This is a very fluid situation that will require constant updates before clarity can be
achieved as to the true nature of the parties’ intentions.
All of this in the context of an ugly US presidential election marked by scandals, corruption, misstatements and two candidates who seemed destined to perpetuate the policy of endless wars they will inherit from their recent predecessors.
