As special counsel Robert Mueller is granted an extension for his investigation in 2016 election meddling, former Trump campaign adviser Roger Stone is remaining steadfast in his rejection of the probe as a witch hunt and “an effort to squeeze” him against President Donald Trump.

“No matter what they do, John, I will not bear false witness against Donald Trump,” Stone told host John Catsimatidis on “The Cats Roundtable” to 970 AM-N.Y.

“. . . Anything they charge me with would have to be a fabrication, an effort to squeeze me to turn on our president, and I will never do that.”

Stone contends the efforts against him show the true goal of Mueller’s investigation: To undo the election because both Democrats and establishment Republicans are angry a political outsider beat them in 2016.

“It really is a witch hunt, and I think no one should be sanguine about this: Mr. Mueller’s goal is to undo the results of the 2016 election,” Stone said. “It is nothing short of finding something, anything, to give the House Democrats grist for a vote of impeachment.”

Stone reiterated he has “broken no laws in connection with the 2016 election.”

“I’m being persecuted for one reason and one reason only: I’m a 40-year friend of Donald Trump’s and I helped him run for president successfully,” Stone said.

“. . . It’s called politics. I engaged in politics. It’s not illegal, at least not yet.”

Stone rebuked FBI efforts to interview his cleaning lady, pick through his trash, bankrupt him, and attempt to tie him to Russia.

“My relatives were mowed down by Russian tanks in Budapest in 1956,” Stone said. “To accuse me of being in bed with the Russians is the highest possible insult. But this inquisition goes on and on. In December, I lost my life insurance and my health insurance. My legal fees are projected to top 2 million bucks . . . every penny I can scrape up has to go to my legal defense. It’s really hard to believe that this can happen in America.”

Stone also rebuked Mueller’s mission to do work for those upset with the 2016 election results.

“I think he’s loyal to the political establishment and the two-party duopoly who is so offended by President Trump’s election and his reform agenda, which threatens business as usual,” Stone said. “. . . Clearly, this was a setup and FBI Director [James] Comey knew all about it.

“. . . This is a scandal far worse than Watergate. This is an abuse of power in which the authority and the capability of the state was used to spy on the Republican candidate for president and his campaign . . . I think those leading this investigation are just as interested in covering up their own crimes as they are in trying to invent some crime against Donald Trump.”
