Undercover FBI agent paid for Gillum political action committee fundraiser

Tallahassee mayor and Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum had an undercover FBI agent pay for a fundraiser for his political action committee in 2016, new emails and records reveal.

According to the documents originally requested by the Florida Commission on Ethics, undercover FBI agent “Mike Miller” was charged $4,386 from a restaurant then owned by former lobbyist Adam Corey.

Corey lawyer Chris Kise released the documents Thursday — days after it was reported that Gillum had accepted a ticket to see the play “Hamilton” from Miller during a trip to New York in 2016.

Although Gillum had previously said he obtained the ticket from his brother, text messages between Gillum and Corey suggest Gillum was aware the ticket had been obtained from Miller.

But Gillum has continued to state that he obtained the ticket from his brother.

“These records vindicate and add more evidence that at every turn I was paying my own way or was with my family, for all trips, including picking up tickets from my brother, Marcus, who was with a group of his own friends,” Gillum said in a statement this week, per the Tampa Bay Times.

The ethics commission is examining trips Gillum took in 2016 to New York and Costa Rica, and originally subpoenaed documents pertaining to trips Cory took with Gillum. The commission also requested Kise send all documents he had concerning Gillum’s travels in 2016 on Thursday.

Gillum, a Democrat, is running for Florida governor against former GOP Rep. Ron DeSantis in November.
