{"id":99421,"date":"2018-05-21T07:24:26","date_gmt":"2018-05-21T11:24:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=99421"},"modified":"2018-06-11T06:49:04","modified_gmt":"2018-06-11T10:49:04","slug":"why-would-anyone-ever-build-a-luxury-estate-in-the-middle-of-an-active-volcanic-rift-zone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=99421","title":{"rendered":"Why would anyone ever build a luxury estate in the middle of an active volcanic rift zone?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h1><em>&#8220;Trouble in paradise&#8221; takes on new meaning!<\/em><\/h1>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Hawaii Volcano Eruption Update - Saturday Afternoon (May 19, 2018)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/to7TbhurD1w?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/themillenniumreport.com\/2018\/05\/why-would-anyone-ever-build-a-luxury-estate-in-the-middle-of-an-active-volcanic-rift-zone\/\">The Millennium Report<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Because that&#8217;s exactly where the developers of\u00a0Leilani Estates, Hawaii built a subdivision on the Big Island&#8212;an extremely dangerous location destined for LOTs of <em><strong>&#8220;Trouble in paradise&#8221;<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s also where 696 homeowners found their slice of paradise before it was turned into a hellish conflagration by an irate neighbor&#8212;a highly active shield volcano known as\u00a0K\u012blauea volcano.\u00a0 (See more details about the nasty neighbor below.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;Leilani Estates is located directly on a stretch of the east\u00a0<a title=\"Rift zone\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rift_zone\">rift zone<\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0<a title=\"K\u012blauea\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/K%C4%ABlauea\">K\u012blauea<\/a>\u00a0<a title=\"Volcano\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Volcano\">volcano<\/a>, in\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Lava Flow Hazard Zones\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lava_Flow_Hazard_Zones\">lava flow hazard zone 1<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-5\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Leilani_Estates,_Hawaii#cite_note-5\">[5]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0Zone 1 includes the summit and rift zones of active volcanoes\u2014new eruptive vents can spawn anywhere inside this zone. Approximately 10% or 50 square miles (100\u00a0km<sup>2<\/sup>) out of the 500 square miles (1,000\u00a0km<sup>2<\/sup>) of Puna have been covered by lava flows since 1790.<sup id=\"cite_ref-6\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Leilani_Estates,_Hawaii#cite_note-6\">[6]<\/a><\/sup>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Are the rest of the real estate insurance policy holders in\u00a0Hawaii supposed to subsidize those who made such a foolish and disastrous decision?<\/p>\n<p>Really, how does anyone build their dream home on the side of an active volcano.\u00a0 More significantly, how does the state <strong>permit<\/strong> such an inevitable flaming fiasco?<\/p>\n<p>Oh, that&#8217;s right, the expansion of the tax base guarantees an additional stream of property tax revenues.\u00a0 As usual, it was bad government that allowed this slow-motion catastrophe to occur in the first place&#8230;<em><strong>at our collective expense<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 Democrat-dominated blue states like Hawaii will find every way possible to raise taxes, legislate new ones or approve tax-generating projects that simply shouldn&#8217;t be there.<\/p>\n<p>As for the developers, they&#8217;ll build inside of a volcano cauldron if given the green light to do so.\u00a0 Those folks couldn&#8217;t care less once the deal is closed.<\/p>\n<p>Incidentally, the state of Hawaii currently has 5 active volcanoes dotting the landscape.\u00a0 Which means there&#8217;s a LOT of other real estate at great risk and likely to be a lot more <em><strong>trouble in paradise<\/strong><\/em> .<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/themillenniumreport.com\/2018\/05\/why-would-anyone-ever-build-a-luxury-estate-in-the-middle-of-an-active-volcanic-rift-zone\/\">The Millennium Report<\/a><br \/>\nMay 21, 2018<\/p>\n<p>N.B. Now see below what it&#8217;s really like to have an angry volcano as your next-door neighbor.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>Hawaii Residents Trapped As Volcanic Eruption Intensifies, First Major Injury Reported After &#8220;Lava Bomb&#8221;<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>ZeroHedge.com<\/p>\n<p>More residents of Hawaii&#8217;s Big Island have been told to evacuate as fast moving lava threatens homes and businesses after\u00a0a new,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/HawaiiNewsNow\/videos\/10156210532255479\/\">explosive eruption<\/a>\u00a0took place at Kilauea&#8217;s summit crater Saturday as well as the emergence of fresh,\u00a0faster flowing lava throughout the region. Some 22 fissures have opened up in the lower Puna district since the eruptions began over two weeks ago, claiming at least 44 structures in the affluent Leilani Estates and Lanipuna Gardens subdivisions.<\/p>\n<p>Residents across the Ka&#8217;u region have been advised to prepare for &#8220;rapid changes in air quality&#8221; due to the potential for ashfall or increased levels of sulfur dioxide.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/themillenniumreport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/river3_0.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-64229\" src=\"http:\/\/themillenniumreport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/river3_0.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"280\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As of Sunday morning, powerful lava flows had crossed a highway and begun flowing into the Pacific ocean &#8211; sending &#8220;hydrochloric acid and steam with fine glass particles into the air,&#8221; according to County officials.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>USGS scientists also announced on Saturday that\u00a0<strong>fissures are now merging and connecting to other lava flows<\/strong>\u00a0in the area. The strongest quake in the area was a magnitude 4.4, and dozens more have been upwards of magnitude 3.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;<strong>It&#8217;s been like hell<\/strong>,&#8221; said resident Ikaika Marzo, who has been helping get much-needed information to those in lower Puna.<\/p>\n<p><strong>He described the sounds of lava in the area as 10 or 20 jets taking off at once and right in your backyard<\/strong>. &#8220;<strong>It&#8217;s like huge grenades going off,<\/strong>&#8221; he said. &#8220;<strong>It shakes the whole community.<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The ongoing volcanic activity prompted civil defense authorities to urge extreme caution for anyone still in lava-ravaged areas. &#8211;<em>Hawaii News Now<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Everything is so uncertain. It&#8217;s really nerve-wracking,&#8221; said Debbie Kalaluhi, who can see the ongoing eruption of fissure no. 17 from her backyard. &#8220;You&#8217;re very on edge.
