It gained notoriety when it\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vox.com\/2018\/3\/28\/17173618\/march-for-our-lives-gun-violence-town-halls-parkland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">organized<\/a>\u00a0activists last year to support progressive healthcare legislation.<\/p>\n<p>Hogg and the March for Our Lives organizers are seeking to channel the energy of anti-gun protesters into town halls for every member of Congress during the current recess that ends April 9,\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mcclatchydc.com\/news\/politics-government\/article207338609.html#storylink=cpy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">promoting<\/a>\u00a0the campaign on Twitter as #TownHallForOurLives.<\/p>\n<p>Vox.com\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vox.com\/2018\/3\/28\/17173618\/march-for-our-lives-gun-violence-town-halls-parkland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">reported<\/a>\u00a0on the town hall plan:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Congress is on recess through April 8 (April 9 for the House), so some lawmakers already have town halls scheduled. March for Our Lives and the Town Hall Project are encouraging gun control activists to rally around those already established events \u2014 or pressure representatives without a town hall scheduled to host one next week.<\/p>\n<p>David Hogg, a Parkland survivor and one of the March for Our Lives organizers, said this goes for Republican and Democratic Congress members \u2014 they want all 435 representatives to participate. If not, primary and general elections opponents will be invited to attend in their places, or activists will consider holding an \u201cempty chair town hall\u201d to call attention to their absence. \u201cWe\u2019re not for Democrats or Republicans,\u201d Hogg said. \u201cWe\u2019re simply trying to save kids.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Hogg, more than 100 town halls have been scheduled. One of those kits is the \u201cTown Hall strategy resources\u201d from the Indivisible Movement. The other is the \u201cRecess Toolkit\u201d published by the Center for American Progress (CAP).<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Breitbart News extensively\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/big-journalism\/2017\/02\/14\/fake-news-politico-scrubs-soros-ties-anti-trump-group-trying-mobilize-nationwide-protests\/\">reported<\/a>\u00a0that Indivisible leaders have been professional activists openly associated with groups financed by billionaire George Soros.<\/p>\n<p>Also last year, Organizing for Action (OFA), the activist group that morphed from Barack Obama\u2019s first presidential campaign,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/big-government\/2017\/02\/19\/obamas-organizing-action-partners-soros-linked-indivisible-disrupt-trumps-agenda\">partnered<\/a>\u00a0with the Indivisible Project for \u201conline trainings\u201d on how to protest Trump\u2019s agenda.<\/p>\n<p>OFA is also promoting Hogg\u2019s town hall campaign:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">REMINDER: Congressional recess is happening right now. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA)\u00a0as well as\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/socal\/daily-pilot\/news\/tn-dpt-me-rohrabacher-20170215-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">reportedly<\/a>\u00a0knocking a two-year-old to the ground. Indivisible protesters\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"http:\/\/losangeles.cbslocal.com\/2017\/02\/15\/rohrabacher-staffer-71-knocked-unconscious-by-group-delivering-valentines-day-cards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">claimed<\/a>\u00a0they were only delivering Valentine\u2019s Day cards.<\/p>\n<p>CAP, meanwhile, was co-founded by John Podesta, who served as Bill Clinton\u2019s chief of staff and was co-director of Obama\u2019s White House transition team in 2009. Podesta served as chairman of Hillary Clinton\u2019s 2016 presidential campaign.<\/p>\n<p>The CAP is financed\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"http:\/\/www.opensocietyfoundations.org\/about\/programs\/us-programs\/grantees\/center-american-progress-6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">in significant part<\/a>\u00a0by Soros. When it was first founded in 2003, Soros\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/archive\/politics\/2003\/11\/11\/soross-deep-pockets-vs-bush\/c7c8f9a0-d902-4298-ac8e-9132ad499238\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">pledged<\/a>\u00a0up to $3 million for the group. The billionaire has since provided numerous annual grants to CAP, including a $400,000<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"http:\/\/www.opensocietyfoundations.org\/about\/programs\/us-programs\/grantees\/center-american-progress-7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">\u00a0grant<\/a>\u00a0in 2013 for the CAP\u2019s campus activism wing, a $350,000\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"http:\/\/www.opensocietyfoundations.org\/about\/programs\/us-programs\/grantees\/center-american-progress-3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">grant\u00a0<\/a>in 2012 to their legal action arm and numerous other grants. CAP has also received near-annual\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tides.org\/impact\/grantees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">grants<\/a>\u00a0from the Soros-funded Tides Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>The Town Hall Project\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"http:\/\/townhallproject.com\/#about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">says<\/a>\u00a0it is supported by \u201chundreds of grassroots donors\u201d and lists only one \u201cpartner\u201d by name, the NextGen America organization.<\/p>\n<p>On the main page of its official website, NextGen America\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"http:\/\/nextgenamerica.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">calls<\/a>\u00a0for \u201cresistance\u201d in the progressive battle for environmental activism as well as \u201cthe fight for immigrant rights, affordable health care and core American values.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>NextGen America was\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"http:\/\/nextgenamerica.org\/who-we-are\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">founded<\/a>\u00a0by Democratic mega donor Tom Steyer.<\/p>\n<p>Town Hall Project Managing Director Nathan Williams has described his group\u2019s mission\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2017\/feb\/22\/town-halls-of-republicans-interrupted-by-ambush-at\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">thusly<\/a>: \u201cIt\u2019s safe to say most of our team are motivated by a desire to fight the Trump agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Williams\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mcclatchydc.com\/news\/politics-government\/article207338609.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">told<\/a>\u00a0McClatchy last week that the aim is to hold 535 town halls over Congressional recess. \u201cThis is not an unreasonable thing to expect. If they can meet with donors every recess they can take an hour to talk to constituents \u2013 it is called \u2018district work period,\u2019\u201d said Williams. \u201cBut yes, it\u2019s safe to say that not all 535 will host town halls over recess. There will probably be mostly empty chair town halls on the seventh.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McClatchy further reported:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Williams said they\u2019ve gotten calls from more than 300 potential organizers from about 130 districts on hosting town halls on April 7. If the member of Congress refuses to show up, they\u2019ll have an \u201cempty chair\u201d town hall, inviting members\u2019 campaign opponents and hosting constituents to voice their concerns. So far, 48 members of Congress have in-person town halls scheduled over the recess, and about a third of them are Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>More than a dozen such empty chair town halls were officially organized by Thursday, including ones for Reps. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., Ken Buck, R-Colo., Ron Estes, R-Kan., Erik Paulsen, R-Minn., and Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>But March for Our Lives organizers, coming off a weekend that saw hundreds of thousands of people participate in rallies for gun control reform across the nation, aren\u2019t giving up. Williams said Town Hall Project reached out a week before the march to offer its help and floated the idea that this march happening before a recess was a great time to demand town halls. The Parkland students have been pushing people over social media to organize town halls since Sunday.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Last year, following a violent scuffle at an event with Rohrabacher, Republican lawmakers expressed concern for their safety at town hall events. The concern came amid\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2017\/feb\/22\/town-halls-of-republicans-interrupted-by-ambush-at\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">calls<\/a>\u00a0for stepped-up activism at town halls from a coalition of professional activist groups, especially the Town Hall Project, the Soros-funded MoveOn.org, and Democracy for America.\u00a0 The \u201cstorm-the-town halls\u201d strategy<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2017\/feb\/22\/town-halls-of-republicans-interrupted-by-ambush-at\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">\u00a0reportedly<\/a>\u00a0resulted in Republican town halls being swamped by activists.<\/p>\n<p>The disruptions prompted Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) and other Republican lawmakers last year to opt for the safety of telephone conference calls instead of in-person town halls, with Gohmert\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2017\/feb\/22\/town-halls-of-republicans-interrupted-by-ambush-at\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">explaining<\/a>\u00a0he would hold the phone sessions \u201cuntil the threat of violence at town hall meetings recedes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, at this time there are groups from the more violent strains of the leftist ideology, some even being paid, who are preying on public town halls to wreak havoc and threaten public safety,\u201d Gohmert\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2017\/feb\/22\/town-halls-of-republicans-interrupted-by-ambush-at\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">wrote<\/a>\u00a0in a letter to his constituents at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Rohrabacher\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2017\/feb\/22\/town-halls-of-republicans-interrupted-by-ambush-at\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">criticized<\/a>\u00a0the Indivisible protesters who stormed his event last year as \u201cpart of a nationwide, anti-Trump mobilization\u201d that is \u201cengaged in political thuggery, pure and simple.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While Hogg openly pushes the town halls along with a coalition of left-wing groups, he appeared on MSNBC on Tuesday to deny that any \u201cshadowy figures\u201d are behind his gun-control activism.<\/p>\n<p>He was replying to a charge from Bill O\u2019Reilly linking Hogg\u2019s efforts to get advertisers to boycott Laura Ingraham\u2019s television show to the Media Matters activist group.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m pretty well lit \u2014 I don\u2019t see any shadowy figures behind me,\u201d Hogg\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2018\/apr\/3\/david-hogg-there-are-no-shadowy-figures-aiding-gun\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">stated<\/a>. \u201cI mean, honestly, if he sees shadowy figures as corporate America standing by us, OK, I guess.
