One woman suffered a minor injury from the explosion that took place inside the sorting facility.<\/h2>\n<p><em><strong>UPDATE 1:40 p.m.:\u00a0<\/strong>FedEx officials confirmed that a second package was shipped by the same sender as the package that exploded on Tuesday morning, the Texas Tribune\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"http:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2018\/03\/20\/texas-package-explosion-fedex-austin-bombing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">reported<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>In a written statement, FedEx said it \u201cconfirmed that the individual responsible [for sending the first exploded package] also shipped a second package that has now been secured and turned over to law enforcement.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Those packages appear to have been shipped from the FedEx store in\u00a0SunsetValley near the site of Sunday night\u2019s bombing that injured two people (see 11:30 a.m. update below), according to the local police department\u2019s Facebook page.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>UPDATE 11:55 a.m.:\u00a0<\/strong>The Sunset Valley police chief told reporters that whoever \u201cdelivered\u201d the package that exploded in Schertz Tuesday morning had to come into the Brodie Lane FedEx store as \u201cthere is no drop-off [box],\u201d\u00a0<\/em>Austin American-Statesman\u00a0<em>reporter Mary Huber tweeted.<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"SandboxRoot env-bp-350\" data-twitter-event-id=\"0\">\n<div id=\"twitter-widget-0\" class=\"EmbeddedTweet EmbeddedTweet--edge js-clickToOpenTarget tweet-InformationCircle-widgetParent\" lang=\"en\" data-click-to-open-target=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/marymhuber\/status\/976133782653808641\" data-iframe-title=\"Twitter Tweet\" data-dt-full=\"%{hours12}:%{minutes} %{amPm} - His department\u2019s bomb squad is assisting in the investigation. He said the package has been safely removed from the building for further examination. The unexploded package could provide valuable clues not previously available to investigators.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>McManus told reporters the second package, found at the same location, is loaded with an explosive device, the news agency reported.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Sunset Valley is located southwest of Austin about a mile from the scene of Austin\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/texas\/2018\/03\/19\/austins-4th-bomb-shows-significant-change-in-bombers-strategy-say-police\/\">fourth bomb explosion<\/a>\u00a0that occurred on Sunday evening. That explosion marked a \u201csignificant change\u201d in the strategy and technology of the Austin serial bomber, Interim Police Chief Brian Manley said on Monday. They were joined by officials with the FBI and ATF.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Mayor Carpenter assured residents of the of his community that the FedEx facility and the City of Schertz were not targets of the bomber. Chief Hansen confirmed the timeline of the explosion and related that the San Antonio Bomb Squad responded to provide assistance after the explosion.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>FBI and ATF officials provided very little information about the bombing. The officials stated they had just cleared the building as being safe to enter and that they were in the very early stages of this investigation.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>FBI\u00a0Assistant Special Agent in Charge James Smith would not confirm any of the previously reported information about the Schertz explosion. He did reveal that the bomb was moving along an automated conveyor when it exploded. The woman who was injured was standing nearby when the bomb exploded. She reported \u201cringing in her ears\u201d and was evaluated by EMS officials. She was later cleared and released.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>ATF Acting Assistant Special Agent in Charge Frank Ortega also refused to provide or confirm any information. Schertz is located a few miles northeast of San Antonio, near Randolph Air Force Base.<\/p>\n<p>Officials told reporters that a medium size package exploded inside the sorting facility in Schertz. There were about 75 people inside the facility at the time of the explosion that occurred\u00a0shortly after midnight Tuesday morning, KENS CBS5\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kens5.com\/article\/news\/crime\/package-headed-to-austin-explodes-at-schertz-fedex-ground-facility\/273-530099585\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">reported<\/a>. The CBS affiliate said one woman\u00a0received a minor injury from the impact of the blast. An FBI agent told the CBS reporter that \u201cit\u2019s more than possible\u201d that this explosion is connected to the four bombs that have exploded in the Austin area this month. Those bombs killed two people and injured four others.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, Austin Interim Police Chief Brian Manley called the bombs the work of a \u201cserial bomber,\u201d Breitbart Texas\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/texas\/2018\/03\/19\/austins-4th-bomb-shows-significant-change-in-bombers-strategy-say-police\/\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The box reportedly exploded while moving along the conveyor belt. A woman was \u201cslightly injured\u201d from the impact of the explosion, Cooper reported. EMS responders treated and released the woman at the scene. All of the employees are being detained inside the perimeter so that FBI and ATF agents can question them for more information.<\/p>\n<p>A statement from FedEx confirmed that a \u201csingle package\u201d exploded and that a \u201cteam member\u201d was treated for \u201cminor injuries,\u201d the\u00a0<em>Washington Post<\/em>\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/morning-mix\/wp\/2018\/03\/20\/package-believed-to-be-bound-for-austin-explodes-at-texas-fedex-facility-police-say\/?utm_term=.303dd9041478&amp;wpisrc=al_news__alert-national&amp;wpmk=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If this bomb is confirmed to be the work of the Austin serial bomber, it represents yet another evolution in tactics. The first three bombs appeared to be hand delivered to the front steps of homes in East San Antonio. On Sunday evening, a bomb exploded after the victims triggered a tripwire, Chief Manley stated. This would be the first package placed into a common carrier package delivery system.<\/p>\n<p>KSAT and Fox San Antonio reported the package contained metal shrapnel and nails when it exploded, the\u00a0<em>Austin American-Statesman\u00a0<\/em><a class=\"x5l\" href=\"http:\/\/www.statesman.com\/news\/local\/package-believed-bound-for-austin-explodes-fedex-facility-schertz\/qhEzri65hMilAAp6xEJvFI\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">reported<\/a>. A FedEx employee who was working inside the facility when the package exploded told the Austin newspaper that she heard a \u201cloud, metal bang\u201d shortly before supervisors ordered the employees to leave the facility.<\/p>\n<p>The bombing campaign began on March 2 when a package exploded in northeast Austin. The explosion killed 39-year-old Anthony House. On March 12, a second package exploded when 17-year-old\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/texas\/2018\/03\/14\/youth-orchestra-musician-identified-victim-second-austin-bombing\/\">Draylen Mason<\/a>\u00a0opened a package left on the front steps of his home. The package exploded, killing him and injuring his mother.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/texas\/2018\/03\/12\/police-link-3-deadly-home-delivery-package-explosions-texas-capital-city\/\">third explosion<\/a>\u00a0detonated a few hours later and sent a 75-year-old woman to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Shortly after this explosion, Chief Manley admitted the bombs were linked.<\/p>\n<p>Less than one week later, Austin\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/texas\/2018\/03\/18\/explosion-austin-injures-two\/\">fourth bomb<\/a>\u00a0exploded and injured two young men on Austin\u2019s southwest side.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to the news of the San Antonio-area blast, Chief Manley stated, \u201cThe Austin Police Department is aware of the incident that has occurred in Schertz, Texas, and is working closely on the investigation with our federal partners.\u201d The chief urged Austin residents to pay close attention to any suspicious device \u201cwhether it is a package, a bag, a backpack, or anything that looks out of place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo not approach it,\u201d Manley stated. \u201cDo not move, touch , or open unexpected\/suspicious packages.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Editor\u2019s Note: This is a developing story.
