Jeff Sessions on Nunes Memo: ‘No Department Is Perfect’<\/h1>\n

Attorney General Jeff Sessions reacted to a Republican memo detailing government surveillance on the Trump campaign by saying “no department is perfect.”<\/p>\n

Hours after the document written by Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., was\u00a0declassified and released,<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0Sessions weighed in via a statement.<\/p>\n

“Congress had made inquiries concerning an issue of great importance for the country and concerns have been raised about the Department’s performance. I have great confidence in the men and women of this Department. But no Department is perfect,” Sessions said, according to\u00a0Axios.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

“Accordingly, I will forward to appropriate DOJ components all information I receive from Congress regarding this. I am determined that we will fully and fairly ascertain the truth.<\/p>\n

“We work for the American people and are accountable to them and those they have elected. We will meet that responsibility.”<\/p>\n

The document<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0discusses how the DOJ\u00a0obtained a FISA warrant<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0to spy on Trump campaign foreign policy adviser Carter Page. Nunes alleged that the department used both a scandalous, unverified dossier about Trump and a news story as probable cause for the warrant.<\/p>\n
