{"id":92737,"date":"2018-01-15T15:05:46","date_gmt":"2018-01-15T19:05:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=92737"},"modified":"2018-01-15T15:05:46","modified_gmt":"2018-01-15T19:05:46","slug":"doj-unseals-indictment-involving-uranium-one-scandal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=92737","title":{"rendered":"DOJ Unseals Indictment Involving Uranium One Scandal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--more-->ZeroHedge.com<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Justice unsealed\u00a0an\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/former-president-maryland-based-transportation-company-indicted-11-counts-related-foreign\">11-count indictment\u00a0<\/a>on Friday to a former DoD intelligence analyst-turned uranium transportation executive\u00a0<strong>who stands\u00a0accused of a bribery and money laundering scheme involving a Russian nuclear official connected to the Uranium One deal.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The indictment corroborates a November report by\u00a0<em>The Hill<\/em>\u00a0that an FBI mole deeply embedded in the Russian uranium industry had gathered extensive evidence of the scheme.<\/p>\n<p>Mark Lambert, 54, of Mount Airy, Maryland, was charged with\u00a0<strong>one count of conspiracy to violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and to commit wire fraud, seven counts of violating the FCPA, two counts of wire fraud and one count of international promotion money laundering.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/2b3182d.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-92741\" src=\"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/2b3182d.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/2b3182d.jpg 500w, https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/2b3182d-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/2b3182d-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The charges stem from an alleged scheme to bribe\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/former-russian-nuclear-energy-official-sentenced-48-months-prison-money-laundering-conspiracy\">Vadim Mikerin<\/a>, a Russian official at\u00a0JSC Techsnabexport (TENEX), a subsidiary of Russia\u2019s State Atomic Energy Corporation and the sole supplier and exporter of Russian Federation uranium and uranium enrichment services to nuclear power companies worldwide, in order to secure contracts with TENEX.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>According to the indictment, beginning at least as early as 2009 and continuing until October 2014,\u00a0<strong>Lambert conspired with others at \u201cTransportation Corporation A\u201d to make corrupt and fraudulent bribery and kickback payments to offshore bank accounts associated with shell companies,\u00a0<em>at the direction of<\/em>, and for the benefit of, a Russian official, Vadim Mikerin, in order to secure improper business advantages and obtain and retain business with TENEX.\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211;<em>DOJ<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While the indictment lists Lambert&#8217;s company as &#8220;Transportation Corporation A,&#8221; a\u00a0simple search reveals that\u00a0<strong>Lambert is the co-President of DAHER-<\/strong><strong>TLI,\u00a0<\/strong>&#8220;the leading front end freight forwarding company dedicated to Nuclear Cargo<b>,&#8221; according to its\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/archive.is\/39VpA\">website<\/a>.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/daher.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-92740\" src=\"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/daher.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"357\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/daher.jpg 500w, https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/daher-300x214.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In 2012, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nrc.gov\/docs\/ML1216\/ML12165A411.pdf\"><strong>sent a letter<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0to Lambert with findings that TLI had exported plutonium &#8220;in excess of the maximum quantity and type applied for and licensed,&#8221; and &#8220;exported Australian obligated material, which was not authorized under license conditions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Prior to his 26 year tenure in the transportation industry &#8211; 20 of which have been with TLI,\u00a0<strong>Mr.\u00a0Lambert was an Arabic Linguist for the Navy for five years, and a Senior Intel Analyst for the Department of Defense<\/strong>\u00a0(DoD) for three years.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/arabicl-002.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-92739\" src=\"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/arabicl-002.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/arabicl-002.jpg 500w, https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/arabicl-002-300x248.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Lambert also speaks fluent Arabic and Farsi (Persian), along with French and Italian.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/languages-002-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-92738\" src=\"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/languages-002-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"351\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/languages-002-1.jpg 500w, https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/languages-002-1-300x211.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The indictment against Lambert\u00a0corroborates prior reporting by\u00a0<em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/national-security\/355749-fbi-uncovered-russian-bribery-plot-before-obama-administration\">The Hill<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>that\u00a0<strong>an FBI mole buried deep within the Russian nuclear industry had\u00a0gathered extensive evidence of a scheme involving\u00a0bribes and kickbacks between Russian nuclear officials and TLI\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211;<strong>\u00a0which would have\u00a0transported the U.S. uranium sold to Russia in the \u201920 percent\u2019 Uranium One deal.<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201c<strong>The Russians were compromising American contractors in the nuclear industry with kickbacks and extortion threats, all of which raised legitimate national security concerns.\u00a0And\u00a0none of that evidence got aired before the Obama administration made those decisions<\/strong>,\u201d a person who worked on the case told The Hill, speaking on condition of anonymity for fear of retribution by U.S. or Russian officials.&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>http:\/\/youtu.be\/cO0Lh8gOu5Q<\/p>\n<p>Based on what the FBI knew \u2013 including evidence which purportedly includes a video of Russians preparing\u00a0<strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2017-11-18\/fbi-informant-has-video-russian-agents-briefcases-bribe-money-clinton-uranium-scanda\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">briefcases of bribe money<\/a><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<strong>the Uranium One deal never should have gone through.\u00a0<\/strong>Moreover, both Robert Mueller and current deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein were directly involved \u2013 and current Attorney General Jeff Sessions and other Justice Department officials appear to be covering for them.<\/p>\n<p>In short,\u00a0<strong>the FBI had ample evidence of the Russian bribery plot\u00a0before\u00a0the Obama administration approved the Uranium One deal thanks to their embedded mole in the Russian nuclear industry.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0informant \u2013 outed as energy consultant William Campbell\u00a0&#8211; was \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/2017\/10\/19\/grassley-wants-gag-order-lifted-for-fbi-informant-allegedly-threatened-by-obama-doj.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">threatened<\/a>\u201d by Obama admin AG Loretta Lynch to keep quiet with an iron-clad gag order, according to his attorney \u2013 former Reagan Justice Dept. official and former Chief Counsel to the Senate Intelligence Committee Victoria Toensing. After Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-VA) demanded Campbell be allowed to testify in front of Congress, the gag order was lifted.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Attorney General Jeff Sessions\u00a0<\/strong>originally tried to claim that there was no connection between Uranium One and the nuclear transport bribery case, however\u00a0several congressional republicans pushed back:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201c<strong>Attorney General Sessions seemed to say that the bribery, racketeering and money laundering offenses involving Tenex\u2019s Vadim Mikerin occurred after the approval of the Uranium One deal by the Obama administration. But we know that the FBI\u2019s confidential informant was actively compiling incriminating evidence as far back as 2009<\/strong>,\u201d\u00a0Rep. Ron DeSantis, (R-Fla.) told The Hill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is\u00a0<strong>hard to fathom how such a transaction could have been approved without the existence of the underlying corruption being disclosed<\/strong>.\u00a0I hope AG Sessions gets briefed about the CI and gives the Uranium One case the scrutiny it deserves,\u201d added DeSantis, whose House Oversight and Government Reform subcommittees is one of the investigating panels.<\/p>\n<p>Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) sent a similar rebuke last week to Rosenstein, saying the deputy attorney general\u2019s first response to the committee \u201clargely missed the point\u201d of the congressional investigations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cThe essential question is whether the Obama Justice Department provided notice of the criminal activity of certain officials before the CFIUS approval of the Uranium One deal and other government decisions that enabled the Russians to trade nuclear materials in the U.S<\/strong>,\u201d\u00a0Grassley scolded.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Meanwhile,<\/strong>\u00a0journalists John Solomon and journalist Sara Carter claim to\u00a0<strong>have copies of the FBI informant\u2019s evidence<\/strong>, while Carter issued an\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/saraacarter.com\/2017\/11\/21\/treasure-trove-of-documents-tying-russia-to-uranium-one\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">explosive report<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>in late November laying out the players, the timeline, and the evidence at hand.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cBy the time the sale of Uranium One was approved by the Obama Administration, the FBI\u2019s investigators had already gathered substantial evidence and the bureau was also aware of Russia\u2019s intentions to enter the U.S. energy market and its desire to purchase a stake in American uranium,<\/strong>\u201d Carter writes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Highlights:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>FBI mole William Campbell was a highly valued FBI asset &#8211; paid $51,000 by FBI officials at a celebration dinner in Chrystal City, VA, where Campbell&#8217;s attorney says they thanked him for his service.<\/li>\n<li>Campbell\u00a0<strong>was required by the Russians, under threat, to launder large sums of money &#8211;\u00a0which allowed the FBI to uncover a\u00a0massive Russian &#8220;nuclear money laundering apparatus<\/strong>&#8220;<\/li>\n<li>Campbell collected over 5,000 documents and briefs over a six year period<\/li>\n<li>Campbell uncovered a Russian plot to penetrate the Obama administration and gain approval for the Uranium One sale, including a 2010 email which describes\u00a0&#8220;<strong>Russia&#8217;s intent on expanding\u00a0its Uranium\u00a0expansion in the United States.&#8221;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>This is not just about bribery and kickbacks but about a U.S. company that was transporting yellow-cake for the Russians with our approval<\/strong>,\u201d an unnamed U.S. Intelligence official told Carter, adding \u201c<strong>This should raise serious questions<\/strong>.\u00a0At the time everyone was concerned about Russia\u2019s ties to Iran, we still are.
