Ex-Google Engineer Fired For Anti-Diversity Views Announces Lawsuit Against His Former Company<\/h1>\n

James Damore, the Google engineer who was fired for writing and internally sending a memo criticizing the company\u2019s diversity policies, announced at his representation\u2019s San Francisco-based law firm Monday that he is taking legal action against his former company.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom the moment Damore\u2019s \u2018Google Memo\u2019 went viral this story has been major national news shaking silicon valley,\u201d reads a press release obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation. \u201c[Harmeet] Dhillon is a San Francisco attorney who serves as the California Republican Party\u2019s RNC National Committeewoman and often takes on controversial, high-profile cases.\u201d<\/p>\n

Damore caused a firestorm for Google after he was\u00a0fired<\/a>,\u00a0saying<\/a>\u00a0in an interview that \u201cit really feels like they betrayed me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Contentious topics he addressed include those dealing with the differences between men and women, like the supposed\u00a0gender wage gap.<\/p>\n

Damore says rather than basing hiring on gender, which he argues is inherently sexist, Google should: \u201cstop alienating conservatives,\u201d \u201cde-moralize diversity,\u201d \u201cde-emphasize empathy,\u201d \u201cconfront Google\u2019s biases,\u201d and \u201cstop restricting programs and classes to certain genders or race,\u201d among other ideas.\u00a0(RELATED: Google Higher-Ups Love Donating To Democrats, Not Republicans)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Overall, his primary arguments seemed to say that Google should not only cultivate an environment where unpopular viewpoints are\u00a0tolerated, but also that employment discrimination in the name of equal representation among genders is \u201cunfair and divisive.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe whole point of my memo was actually to improve Google and Google\u2019s culture,\u201d Damore\u00a0told<\/a>\u00a0Bloomberg. \u201cThey just punished me and shamed me for doing it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Google\u2019s response after the firing was rather different, as CEO Sundar Pichai asserted that \u201cpeople must feel free to express dissent\u201d at Google.<\/p>\n

\u201cFirst, let me say that we strongly support the right of Googlers to express themselves, and much of what was in that memo is fair to debate, regardless of whether a vast majority of Googlers disagree with it,\u201d Pichai\u00a0wrote<\/a>. \u201cHowever, portions of the memo violate our Code of Conduct and cross the line by advancing harmful gender stereotypes in our workplace.\u201d\u00a0(RELATED: Ads Trashing Google For Firing Engineer Appear All Over Venice)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

The seemingly contradicting statements and actions coincide with another memo from\u00a0Google\u2019s vice president of diversity, integrity and governance, who wrote,\u00a0according<\/a>\u00a0to Motherboard, that everyone\u00a0must \u201cfeel safe sharing their opinion.\u201d<\/p>\n
