California Governor Jerry Brown has declared a State of Emergency<\/strong>\u00a0in Ventura County due to the Thomas Fire.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis fire is very dangerous and spreading rapidly, but we’ll continue to attack it with all we’ve got,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0Brown said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s critical residents stay ready and evacuate immediately if told to do so.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

As SHTFplan.com’s Mac Slavo details<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0over 27,000 people have been evacuated and 150 structures destroyed in another raging fire in California.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The fast-moving, wind-fueled wildfire swept into the city of Ventura early Tuesday,\u00a0burning over 45,000 acres so far.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Of the\u00a0150 structures engulfed by the flames<\/a>, was at least one large apartment complex.\u00a0<\/strong>Engulfed in flames, the Hawaiian Village Apartments collapsed about 4 a.m., local time. Water gushed down North Laurel Street as firefighters worked to put out the flaming complex and residents watched with their cameras and cellphones out. Residents\u00a0could hear the sound of propane tanks bursting. Many other buildings are threatened as the fire crept about a quarter-mile away from City Hall.\u00a0Traffic jams were also reported\u00a0<\/a>as many fled their homes.<\/p>\n

The blaze started at about 6:25 p.m. Monday in the foothills near Thomas Aquinas College in Santa Paula, a popular hiking destination.\u00a0<\/strong>It grew quickly to more than 15 square miles in the hours that followed, consuming vegetation that hasn\u2019t burned in decades, Ventura County Fire Sgt. Eric Buschow said.<\/p>\n

Firefighters set up strike teams along foothill communities in Ventura and Santa Paula as the Thomas fire, pushed by 50-mph winds, inched close to homes.\u00a0 The firefighters worked through the night to keep the fire from spreading.\u00a0 \u00a0Fire officials said the intensity of the fire, coupled with the high winds, made it pretty much unstoppable.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cThe prospects for containment are not good<\/strong>,\u201d Ventura County Fire Chief Mark Lorenzen said at a news conference.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cReally, Mother Nature is going to decide.\u201d\u00a0By 5:20 a.m. Tuesday,\u00a0winds were pushing flames toward Ojai Valley, authorities said.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cThe fire is actively burning in the city of Ventura<\/strong>\u00a0and there are homes and buildings actively burning at this time,\u201d Buschow said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The\u00a0Vista\u00a0Del Mar Hospital, a psychiatric facility, was evacuated, authorities said. The area around a Ventura landmark called \u201cTwo Trees\u201d has also burned. There have not been any human casualties reported yet, and more than 260,000 customers in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties were without power. As of 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, a Southern California Edison spokeswoman did not know when power could be restored.<\/p>\n

Strong winds were pushing the blaze in a southwest direction<\/a>\u00a0toward Ventura and Highway 33, officials said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

About 500 firefighters were battling the blaze, or on their way there to assist. Fixed-wing aircraft and water-dropping helicopters are expected to attack the fire at daybreak. Numerous spot fires erupted as a result of the difficult conditions.<\/p>\n
