This week\u2019s winds are tempered because the temperatures are cooler than the hot conditions seen during October Santa Anas, which sparked numerous destructive firestorms.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Powerful and damaging <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/SantaAnaWinds?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#SantaAnaWinds<\/a> ramping up tonight into Tuesday. Here is the projected wind gusts for Tuesday morning, with winds gusting 50-70 mph in wind prone areas of LA\/Ventura counties, and isolated gusts up to 80 mph in the mountains! <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/LAWind?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#LAWind<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/LAWeather?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#LAWeather<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ArdWrZXgpp\">pic.twitter.com\/ArdWrZXgpp<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NWS Los Angeles (@NWSLosAngeles) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NWSLosAngeles\/status\/937869195374678017?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 5, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Authorities anticipate a high fire risk with a red flag warning in effect through Thursday \u2014 Los Angeles and Ventura counties could see wind gusts of 50 to 70 mph Monday night into Tuesday, the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/alerts.weather.gov\/cap\/wwacapget.php?x=CA125879751F00.RedFlagWarning.125879B05020CA.LOXRFWLOX.e2c13b4591bf3403f520886b22bcb5d2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Weather Service predicts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will likely be the strongest and longest duration Santa Ana wind event we have seen so far this season,\u201d the National Weather Service red flag warning reads. \u201cIf fire ignition occurs, there will be the potential for very rapid fire spread, long range spotting, and extreme fire behavior.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ventura County firefighters attacked the fire hard Monday, adding that the winds were the key factor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re really just trying to catch it around the edges and just pinching it off as quickly as we possibly can,\u201d said Ventura County firefighter Jason Hodge, adding that crews are dealing with 25 to 50 mph winds. \u201cThat\u2019s what\u2019s driving this fire. So it\u2019s a challenge, but everybody\u2019s out there working hard and will be through the night.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Official said the 50 mph wind gust Monday night forced them to ground two fire choppers.
