Following the publication of DNC emails by WikiLeaks in the lead-up to the 2016 election, Congressional investigators discovered that the Awans had a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2017\/09\/12\/exclusive-dws-it-guy-was-banned-from-house-after-trying-to-hide-secret-server\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">secret server<\/a>\u00a0being housed by the House Democratic Caucus backed up to an offsite Dropbox account.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"quote_start\">\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"quote_end\">\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>\u201cFor members to say their data was not compromised is simply inaccurate. They had access to all the data including all emails. Imran Awan is the walking example of an insider threat, a criminal actor who had access to everything,\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2017\/09\/12\/exclusive-dws-it-guy-was-banned-from-house-after-trying-to-hide-secret-server\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Daily Caller<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>According to a briefing, &#8220;all five of the shared employees system administrators collectively logged onto the [House Democratic] Caucus system 5,735 times, or an average of 27 times per day,\u201d despite only one of them being authorized to do so.<\/p>\n<p>The Awans were banned from the House IT network on February 2, 2017\u00a0after being named in a\u00a0criminal investigation &#8211; however they continued to work in the building for Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz\u00a0<strong>until Imran Awan&#8217;s arrest at Dulles Airport trying to flee the country in late July.<\/strong>\u00a0Awan and his wife, Hina Alvi, were charged with conspiracy and bank fraud in relation to a real estate transaction.<\/p>\n<p>The laptop in question was tucked away in a tiny room formerly used as a phone booth on the second floor of the Rayburn House Office Building late one night in March, only to be found by Capitol Police just after midnight on April 6, 2017 along with notebooks marked &#8216;attorney client privilege,&#8217; letters addressed to the US Attorney of DC regarding Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and several forms of identification. Based on the contents of the backpack, some believe Awan\u00a0wanted\u00a0the laptop to be found.<\/p>\n<h3><u>Attorney-Client Privilege<\/u><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/lukerosiak\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Luke Rosiak<\/a>\u00a0of the\u00a0Daily Caller,\u00a0who\u00a0has been\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com\/dailycaller\/awan\/awanseries.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tracking the Awan case<\/a>,\u00a0reports that Awan&#8217;s attorney Chris Gowen &#8211; a former aide to Hillary Clinton, is seeking to block the laptop evidence by arguing the &#8216;attorney client privilege&#8217; note attached to the notebook found\u00a0with the laptop covers the contents of the hard drive, according to court papers filed\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/6140499\/41\/1\/united-states-v-awan\/\">Tuesday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Via the\u00a0Daily Caller:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"quote_start\">\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"quote_end\">\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#8220;Chris Gowen, Awan\u2019s attorney,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2017\/10\/06\/imran-awan-very-strongly-wants-to-block-review-of-hard-drive-was-using-alias\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a>\u00a0at the last hearing:<strong>\u00a0\u201cWe do expect there being an attorney-client privilege issue in this case\u2026\u00a0<\/strong>What occurred is a backpack from my client was found, he was trying to get a better signal,<strong>\u00a0there was a note that said attorney client privilege and a hard drive.\u00a0<\/strong>We feel very strongly about this.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2017\/09\/06\/exclusive-did-imran-want-capitol-police-to-find-wasserman-schultzs-laptop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Capitol Police report<\/a>\u00a0reveals the following items were found in the backpack:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"quote_start\">\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"quote_end\">\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>#1 a Pakistani ID card with the name Mohommed Ashraf Awan<br \/>\n#2 a copy \u2013 not original \u2013 of a driver\u2019s license with name Imran Awan<br \/>\n#3 a copy (front and back) of his congressional ID<br \/>\n#4 an Apple laptop with the homescreen initials \u2018RepDWS\u2019<br \/>\n<strong>#5\u00a0composition notebooks with notes handwritten saying \u2018attorney client privilege\u2019 and possibly discussing case details below<br \/>\n#6\u00a0loose letters addressed to US Attorney of DC discussing the apparent owner of the bag being investigated.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As Rosiak points out, it is unclear how the handwritten note saying &#8220;attorney client privilege&#8221; could be construed to cover a hard drive, rather than the pages of [the] notebook it was contained on.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"quote_start\">\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"quote_end\">\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Andrew McCarthy, a former chief assistant U.S. attorney who has\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/article\/449983\/debbie-wasserman-schultz-pakistani-computer-guys-more-bank-fraud\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">followed the case<\/a>, said\u00a0<strong>\u201cThe A\/C (attorney-client) privilege only applies to communications between the client and lawyer that are for the purpose of seeking legal advice and that are intended by both parties to be kept confidential\u2026 Moreover,\u00a0asserting that something is A\/C protected does not make it so.\u00a0<\/strong>You still have to show that the material in question constitutes communications strictly between the lawyer and client that were for the purpose of seeking legal advice.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I give my lawyer my bank records and ask him if they show evidence of a crime, the bank records do not become A\/C-privileged \u2014 only his advice to me would be A\/C-privileged. And\u00a0<strong>if I stuck a sign on my bank records that said \u2018A\/C-privileged documents,\u2019 that would not make them A\/C-privileged documents,<\/strong>\u201d\u00a0he told The Daily Caller News Foundation Wednesday.&#8221; -Daily Caller<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><u>Debbie Downer<\/u><\/h3>\n<p>In May of 2016, Debbie Wasserman Schulz &#8211; an employer and personal friend of Awan &#8211; spent several minutes browbeating the Chief of DC Capitol Police at a budget meeting, claiming the laptop should be given back since it was hers and threatening &#8216;consequences&#8217; if it wasn&#8217;t returned.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"quote_start\">\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"quote_end\">\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\"><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/DebbieWassermanSchultz?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#DebbieWassermanSchultz<\/a>\u00a0threatens DC Police Chief over not returning Arwan Bros laptop. &#8220;there will be consequences&#8221;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/t.co\/2phDMnvWq5\">http:\/\/t.co\/2phDMnvWq5<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/t.co\/e2wkBJSaim\">pic.twitter.com\/e2wkBJSaim<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u2014 ZeroPointNow (@ZeroPointNow)\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/ZeroPointNow\/status\/867602864259989504?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 25, 2017<\/a><\/p>\n<h3><u>Of Note<\/u><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ibankcoin.com\/zeropointnow\/files\/2017\/05\/1491117755802.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ibankcoin.com\/zeropointnow\/files\/2017\/05\/1491117755802-300x168.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Awan brothers were managing computers for members of the<strong>\u00a0House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; a group with top secret clearance which is looking into Russian election interference right now.<\/p>\n<h3><u>Also of note<\/u><\/h3>\n<p>The brothers were &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2017\/02\/04\/exclusive-house-intelligence-it-staffers-fired-in-computer-security-probe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">shared employees<\/a>,&#8221; hired by multiple Democrats\u00a0for IT\u00a0work whenever it was needed &#8211; so they floated all over the place doing all sorts of work on House members computers. Democrats\u00a0<strong>Juaquin Castro, Cedric Richmond, Andre Carson, Jackie Speier, Tammy Duckworth, and Louis Frankel\u00a0<\/strong>all employed the Awans.<\/p>\n<h3><u>Information Brokers?\u00a0<\/u><\/h3>\n<p>Judge Andrew Napolitano appeared on Fox Business Network in late July where he dropped\u00a0a bombshell:\u00a0<strong>not only did the Awans had access to the emails of\u00a0every member of Congress,\u00a0Imran Awan reportedly\u00a0sold information\u00a0to still unknown parties, which the FBI is currently investigating.<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"quote_start\">\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"quote_end\">\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Napolitano:\u00a0He was arrested for some financial crime &#8211; that&#8217;s the tip of the iceberg. The real allegation against him is that\u00a0<strong>he had access to the emails of every member of congress and he sold what he found in there.\u00a0<\/strong>What did he sell, and to whom did he sell it? That&#8217;s what the FBI wants to know. This may be a very, very serious national security situation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Varney:\u00a0Wait a second, he was the IT worker along with his two Pakistani brothers, for DWS, and other Democrats in the House &#8211; and the theory is that he got access to all of their secrets or whatever, and sold some?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Napolitano:\u00a0Yes, and this was at the time that Congresswoman Schultz was also the chair of the Democratic National Committee. So at this point I don&#8217;t believe they know what he sold, and to whom he sold it &#8211; but they do know what he had access to, which is virtually everything in the House of representatives,\u00a0<strong>which would include classified material in the House intelligence committee.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"max-width-video-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"fluid-width-video-wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" id=\"fitvid823969\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KDVFAnZsnJk\" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" frameborder=\"0\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Lt. Colonel Tony Shaffer went even further &#8211; claiming that the Awan brothers were linked to the\u00a0<strong>Muslim Brotherhood<\/strong>\u00a0while working for Democrat Congressman Andre Carson, a report reinforced by Frontpage Magazine:<\/p>\n<div class=\"max-width-video-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"fluid-width-video-wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" id=\"fitvid421004\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2FumGTTFh5o\" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" frameborder=\"0\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>As\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.frontpagemag.com\/fpm\/265729\/muslim-brotherhood-security-breach-congress-daniel-greenfield\">Frontpage<\/a>\u00a0reported in February:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"quote_start\">\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"quote_end\">\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The office of Andre Carson, the second Muslim in Congress, had employed Imran Awan. As did the offices of Jackie Speier and Debbie Wasserman Schultz; to whom the letter had been addressed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Carson is the second Muslim in Congress and the first Muslim on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and, more critically, is the ranking member on its Emerging Threats Subcommittee. He is also a member of the Department of Defense Intelligence and Overhead Architecture Subcommittee.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Emerging Threats Subcommittee, of which Carson is a ranking member, is responsible for much of counterterrorism oversight. It is the worst possible place for a man with Carson\u2019s credentials.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.discoverthenetworks.org\/individualProfile.asp?indid=2552\">Carson had inherited<\/a>\u00a0his grandmother\u2019s seat and exploited it to promote a radical Islamist agenda. He has interfaced with a laundry list of Islamist groups from CAIR to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.discoverthenetworks.org\/individualProfile.asp?indid=2552\">ISNA to ICNA to MPAC<\/a>. Islamists\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/article\/389811\/andr-carson-islamists-choice-house-representatives-daniel-pipes\">have funded Carson\u2019s career<\/a>\u00a0to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars. The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.centerforsecuritypolicy.org\/2015\/02\/24\/center-releases-dossier-documenting-a-house-intelligence-committee-members-extensive-ties-to-the-muslim-brotherhood\/\">Center for Security Policy has put together a dossier<\/a>\u00a0of Carson\u2019s connections to the Muslim Brotherhood. The Brotherhood is the parent organization of many key Islamic terror groups posing a threat to our national security including Al Qaeda and Hamas.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Andre Carson shared the stage at a CAIR banquet with Sirraj Wahaj: an\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.centerforsecuritypolicy.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Andre_Carson_Dossier_02-24-15.pdf\">unindicted co-conspirator in the<\/a>\u00a0World Trade Center bombing\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.discoverthenetworks.org\/individualProfile.asp?indid=716\">who had once declared<\/a>,\u201d You don\u2019t get involved in politics because it\u2019s the American thing to do. You get involved in politics because politics are a weapon to use in the cause of Islam.\u201d CAIR itself had been\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.investigativeproject.org\/1854\/doj-cairs-unindicted-co-conspirator-status-legit\">named an unindicted co-conspirator<\/a>\u00a0in terror finance.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><u>Immunity for Hina?<\/u><\/h3>\n<p>In September,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/democrat-it-staffer-who-fled-the-country-strikes-deal-to-return-face-charges\/article\/2633528\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">it was reported<\/a>\u00a0that Hina Alvi &#8211; Imran Awan&#8217;s wife, had struck a deal with federal prosecutors to return to the U.S. from Pakistan to face conspiracy and bank fraud charges.<\/p>\n<p>Alvi and her children fled to the safety of Pakistan in early 2017, so her voluntary return &#8211; which was structured with an arrest to be made\u00a0<strong>&#8220;not in front of her children&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0is significant.
