{"id":89953,"date":"2017-11-28T10:52:57","date_gmt":"2017-11-28T14:52:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=89953"},"modified":"2017-11-28T10:53:20","modified_gmt":"2017-11-28T14:53:20","slug":"freedomwatch-sues-to-remove-mueller","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=89953","title":{"rendered":"FreedomWatch sues to remove Mueller"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--more-->BY\u00a0JONATHAN EASLEY<br \/>\nThe Hill<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/players.brightcove.net\/1077863425\/HyenjoxZ3b_default\/index.html?videoId=5655118128001\" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>A conservative group filed suit\u00a0on Monday\u00a0seeking to remove special counsel Robert Mueller from the Justice Department\u2019s investigation into Russian meddling.<\/p>\n<p>Conservative lawyer Larry Klayman, the founder of the watchdog group FreedomWatch, filed a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.freedomwatchusa.org\/pdf\/171125-FWvSessionsWritofMandamusComplaintwithExhiits5292757-0--25143.pdf\">complaint<\/a>\u00a0in U.S. district court that seeks to force the Justice Department to investigate leaks from the special counsel, as well as \u201cthe obvious conflicts of interest among staff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The complaint against Attorney General\u00a0<span class=\"rollover-people\" data-behavior=\"rolloverpeople\"><a class=\"rollover-people-link\" href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/jeff-sessions\" data-nid=\"188198\">Jeff Sessions<\/a><\/span>\u00a0and FBI director Christopher Wray states that \u201cit is a criminal offense to leak grand jury information\u201d and seeks Mueller\u2019s removal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRobert Mueller is not a \u2018man of integrity\u2019 as the Washington, D.C., Democrat and Republican political establishment like to spin,\u201d Klayman said in a statement. \u201cHe is just another pol who is representing his establishment benefactors in both political parties who want to see the presidency of\u00a0Donald Trump\u00a0destroyed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There is deep anger at Mueller on the right and growing calls for him to recuse himself from the special counsel investigation into whether Trump campaign officials had improper contacts with Moscow during the 2016 election.<\/p>\n<p>Klayman is hanging his legal effort on the notion that Mueller is too close to former FBI director James Comey and allegations that his team has leaked damaging stories about those he\u2019s investigating to the press. The complaint also argues that Mueller has politicized the probe by hiring Democrats for his investigative team.<\/p>\n<p>Conservatives have also argued that Mueller\u2019s probe has extended beyond his mandate of investigating Russian meddling.<\/p>\n<p>More recently, conservative media and others on the right have drawn attention to Mueller\u2019s time as FBI director, questioning why he didn\u2019t alert regulators that a subsidiary of a foreign uranium mining company was under investigation before a controversial deal for the sale of the company to a Russia-owned firm was approved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe must be held accountable to the law and should not be able to do as he pleases to further his and his friends, like former FBI Director James Comey&#8217;s, political agenda,\u201d Klayman said. \u201cWe are hopeful that the court will order Justice to do its job and conduct an expeditious and impartial investigation and then order Mueller to step down as special counsel. There are others, perhaps who practice outside of the Washington, D.C., swamp, who could step in and do an honest and conflict-free investigation of so-called Russian collusion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The special counsel has indicted Trump\u2019s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort for a litany of financial crimes.
