When you’re smart, you can make decisions all for yourself.<\/p>\n

That could be a problem if you’re a so-called smart weapon.<\/p>\n

A video<\/a>\u00a0presented on Friday at a\u00a0meeting<\/a>\u00a0of the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons at the United Nations in Geneva shows the frightening power of tiny AI-equipped drones that decide for themselves whom to kill.<\/p>\n

Released by the\u00a0Future of Life Institute<\/a>\u00a0— which counts Elon Musk and Stephen Hawking among its backers — the video shows how technologies created to fight the bad guys can suddenly be subsumed by the not-so-good guys for appalling purposes.<\/p>\n

The video, which underscores how seriously those who would ban killer robots view the issue, isn’t for the faint of heart or stomach.<\/p>\n
