{"id":89187,"date":"2017-11-14T07:06:54","date_gmt":"2017-11-14T11:06:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=89187"},"modified":"2017-11-14T07:07:20","modified_gmt":"2017-11-14T11:07:20","slug":"breaking-doj-to-prosecute-uranium-one-co-conspirators-ag-sessions-open-to-special-counsel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=89187","title":{"rendered":"BREAKING: DOJ to prosecute Uranium One co-conspirators, AG Sessions open to special counsel"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Sessions directs prosecutors to &#8216;evaluate certain issues&#8217; involving Uranium One and Clinton, leaves door open on special counsel<\/h2>\n<p><!--more-->Brooke Singman<br \/>\nBy Brooke Singman | Fox News<\/p>\n<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/video.foxnews.com\/v\/embed.js?id=5645057636001&#038;w=466&#038;h=263\"><\/script><noscript>Watch the latest video at <a href=\"http:\/\/video.foxnews.com\">video.foxnews.com<\/a><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\"><span class=\"dateline\"><b>EXCLUSIVE<\/b> \u2013 \u00a0<\/span>Attorney General Jeff Sessions directed senior federal prosecutors to evaluate \u201ccertain issues\u201d requested by congressional Republicans, involving the sale of Uranium One and alleged unlawful dealings related to the Clinton Foundation, leaving the door open for an appointment of another special counsel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">In a letter first obtained by Fox News, the Justice Department responded to July 27 and September 26 requests from House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., and other committee members, who called for the appointment of a special counsel to investigate the matters in question.<\/p>\n<p>The letter comes on the eve of Sessions\u2019 testimony before the same committee, scheduled for Tuesday.<\/p>\n<div class=\"related video-ct\">\n<div class=\"m\"><a href=\"http:\/\/video.foxnews.com\/v\/5634199948001\/nunes-on-uranium-one-probe-excuses-make-clinton-look-guilty\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/a57.foxnews.com\/media2.foxnews.com\/BrightCove\/694940094001\/2017\/11\/03\/300\/169\/694940094001_5634230424001_5634199948001-vs.jpg?ve=1&amp;tl=1\" alt=\"House Permanent Select Committee chair explains investigation into Obama-era deal on 'Fox &amp; Friends.'\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"caption\">\n<h4 class=\"title\"><a href=\"http:\/\/video.foxnews.com\/v\/5634199948001\/nunes-on-uranium-one-probe-excuses-make-clinton-look-guilty\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nunes on Uranium One probe: Excuses make Clinton look guilty<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe Attorney General has directed senior federal prosecutors to evaluate certain issues raised in your letters,\u201d Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese senior prosecutors will report directly to the Attorney General and the Deputy Attorney General [Rod Rosenstein], as appropriate, and will make recommendations as to whether any matters not currently under investigation should be opened, whether any matters currently under investigation require further resources, or whether any matters merit the appointment of a Special Counsel,\u201d Boyd wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The Justice Department does not ordinarily confirm or deny investigations, and Boyd wrote that \u201cthis letter should not be construed to do so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Justice Department\u2019s letter specifically said that some of the topics requested by Goodlatte and other committee members were already being investigated by the department\u2019s Inspector General\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p>The letter specifically mentioned allegations related to the FBI\u2019s handling of the Clinton email probe, including allegations that DOJ and FBI \u201cpolicies or procedures\u201d were \u201cnot followed in connection with, or in actions leading up to or related to\u201d then-FBI Director James Comey\u2019s public announcement to close the Clinton email \u201cmatter\u201d on July 5, 2016, or the letter he sent lawmakers on October 28, 2016, about newly discovered Clinton emails, and that those \u201cinvestigative decisions were based on improper considerations.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"related video-ct\">\n<div class=\"m\"><a href=\"http:\/\/video.foxnews.com\/v\/5628370775001\/congress-launches-investigations-into-obama-era-uranium-deal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/a57.foxnews.com\/media2.foxnews.com\/BrightCove\/694940094001\/2017\/10\/28\/300\/169\/694940094001_5628373893001_5628370775001-vs.jpg?ve=1&amp;tl=1\" alt=\"Rep.
