Producer and screenwriter Scott Rosenberg, famous for penning the Nicolas Cage action hits\u00a0Con Air<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Gone In Sixty Seconds,\u00a0<\/em>as well as critical successes such as\u00a0High Fidelity<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Beautiful Girls<\/em>, aired out his guilt and grievances with how Hollywood’s elite are spewing “sanctimonious denial and condemnation” with regard to Harvey Wienstein and his criminally predatory ways.<\/p>\n

In his Facebook post, Rosenberg says repeatedly that “everybody f-ing knew” what Weinstein was doing to these women but nobody wanted to take a stand because Harvey was their “Golden Goose.”<\/p>\n

“We were willing to overlook what the Golden Goose was up to, in the murky shadows behind the barn,” Rosenberg writes.<\/p>\n

And who is the “we” he is referring too? Oh, just every mover and shaker in Hollywood including, “You, the big producers; you, the big directors; you, the big agents; you, the big financiers. And you, the big rival studio chiefs; you, the big actors; you, the big actresses; you, the big models. You, the big journalists; you, the big screenwriters; you, the big rock stars; you, the big restaurateurs; you, the big politicians. I saw you. All of you. God help me, I was there with you.”<\/p>\n

Rosenberg’s full statement via\u00a0Deadline Hollywood<\/a><\/em>\u00a0below (warning: some strong language):<\/p>\n

So, uh, yeah.
\nWe need to talk about Harvey.<\/p>\n

I was there, for a big part of it.
\nFrom, what, 1994 to the early 2000s?
\nSomething like that.
\nCertainly The Golden Age.
\nThe \u201cPULP FICTION\u201d, \u201cSHAKESPEARE IN LOVE\u201d, \u201cCLERKS\u201d, \u201cSWINGERS\u201d, \u201cSCREAM\u201d, \u201cGOOD WILL HUNTING\u201d, \u201cENGLISH PATIENT\u201d, \u201cLIFE IS BEAUTIFUL\u201d years \u2026<\/p>\n

Harvey and Bob made my first two movies.
\nThen they signed me to an overall deal.
\nThen they bought that horror script of mine about the Ten Plagues.
\nFor a lot of money.
\nAlso bought that werewolf-biker script.
\nThat no one else liked but was my personal favorite.
\nThey were going to publish my novel.
\nThey anointed me.
\nMade it so other studios thought I was the real deal.
\nThey gave me my career.<\/p>\n

I was barely 30.
\nI was sure I had struck gold.
\nThey loved me, these two brothers, who had reinvented cinema.
\nAnd who were fun and tough and didn\u2019t give an East Coast fuck about all the slick pricks out in L.A.<\/p>\n

And those glory days in Tribeca?
\nThe old cramped offices?
\nThat wonderful gang of executives and assistants?
\nAll the filmmakers who were doing repeat business?
\nThe brothers wanted to create a \u201cfamily of film\u201d.
\nAnd they did just that\u2026
\nWe looked forward to having meetings there.
\nMeetings that would turn into plans that would turn into raucous nights out on the town.
\nSimply put: OG Miramax was a blast.<\/p>\n

So, yeah, I was there.
\nAnd let me tell you one thing.
\nLet\u2019s be perfectly clear about one thing:<\/p>\n

Everybody-fucking-knew.<\/p>\n

Not that he was raping.
\nNo, that we never heard.
\nBut we were aware of a certain pattern of overly-aggressive behavior that was rather dreadful.
\nWe knew about the man\u2019s hunger; his fervor; his appetite.
\nThere was nothing secret about this voracious rapacity; like a gluttonous ogre out of the Brothers Grimm.
\nAll couched in vague promises of potential movie roles.
\n(and, it should be noted: there were many who actually succumbed to his bulky charms. Willingly. Which surely must have only impelled him to cast his fetid net even wider).<\/p>\n

But like I said: everybody-fucking-knew.<\/p>\n

And to me, if Harvey\u2019s behavior is the most reprehensible thing one can imagine, a not-so-distant second is the current flood of sanctimonious denial and condemnation that now crashes upon these shores of rectitude in gloppy tides of bullshit righteousness.<\/p>\n

Because everybody-fucking-knew.<\/p>\n

And do you know how I am sure this is true?
\nBecause I was there.
\nAnd I saw you.
\nAnd I talked about it with you.
\nYou, the big producers; you, the big directors; you, the big agents; you, the big financiers.
\nAnd you, the big rival studio chiefs; you, the big actors; you, the big actresses; you, the big models.
\nYou, the big journalists; you, the big screenwriters; you, the big rock stars; you, the big restaurateurs; you, the big politicians.<\/p>\n

I saw you.
\nAll of you.
\nGod help me, I was there with you.<\/p>\n

Again, maybe we didn\u2019t know the degree.
\nThe magnitude of the awfulness.
\nNot the rapes.
\nNot the shoving against the wall.
\nNot the potted-plant fucking.
\nBut we knew something.
\nWe knew something was bubbling under.
\nSomething odious.
\nSomething rotten.<\/p>\n

But\u2026
\nAnd this is as pathetic as it is true:
\nWhat would you have had us do?
\nWho were we to tell?
\nThe authorities?
\nWhat authorities?
\nThe press?
\nHarvey owned the press.
\nThe Internet?
\nThere was no Internet or reasonable facsimile thereof.
\nShould we have called the police?
\nAnd said what?
\nShould we have reached out to some fantasy Attorney General Of Movieland?
\nThat didn\u2019t exist.<\/p>\n

Not to mention, most of the victims chose not to speak out.
\nAside from sharing the grimy details with a close girlfriend or confidante.
\nAnd if they discussed it with their representatives?
\nAgents and managers, who themselves feared The Wrath Of The Big Man?
\nThe agents and managers would tell them to keep it to themselves.
\nBecause who knew the repercussions?
\nThat old saw \u201cYou\u2019ll Never Work In This Town Again\u201d came crawling back to putrid life like a re-animated cadaver in a late-night zombie flick.
\nBut, yes, everyone knew someone who had been on the receiving end of lewd advances by him.
\nOr knew someone who knew someone.<\/p>\n

A few actress friends of mine told me stories: of a ghastly hotel meeting; of a repugnant bathrobe-shucking; of a loathsome massage request.
\nAnd although they were rattled, they sort of laughed at his arrogance; how he had the temerity to think that simply the sight of his naked, doughy, carbuncled flesh was going to get them in the mood.
\nSo I just believed it to be a grotesque display of power; a dude misreading the room and making a lame-if-vile pass.<\/p>\n

It was much easier to believe that.
\nIt was much easier for ALL of us to believe that.<\/p>\n

Because\u2026<\/p>\n

And here\u2019s where the slither meets the slime:
\nHarvey was showing us the best of times.
\nHe was making our movies.
\nThrowing the biggest parties.
\nTaking us to The Golden Globes!
\nIntroducing us to the most amazing people (Meetings with Vice President Gore! Clubbing with Quentin and Uma! Drinks with Salman Rushdie and Ralph Fiennes! Dinners with Mick Jagger and Warren-freaking-Beatty!).<\/p>\n

The most epic Oscar weekends.
\nThat seemed to last for weeks!
\nSundance! Cannes! Toronto!
\nTelluride! Berlin! Venice!
\nPrivate jets! Stretch limousines! Springsteen shows!
\nHell, Harvey once took me to St. Barth\u2019s for Christmas.
\nFor 12 days!
\nI was a broke-ass kid from Boston who had never even HEARD of St. Barth\u2019s before he booked my travel.
\nHe once got me tickets to the seven hottest Broadway shows in one week. So I could take a new girlfriend on a dazzling tour of theater.
\nHe got me seats on the 40-yard-line to the Super Bowl, when the Patriots were playing the Packers in New Orleans.
\nEven got me a hotel room, which was impossible to get that weekend.
\nHe gave and gave and gave and gave.
\nHe had a monarch\u2019s volcanic generosity when it came to those within his circle.
\nAnd a Mafia don\u2019s fervent need for abject loyalty from his capos and soldiers.<\/p>\n

But never mind us!
\nWhat about what he was doing for the culture?
\nMaking stunningly splendid films at a time when everyone else was cranking-out simpering \u201cINDEPENDENCE DAY\u201d rip-offs.<\/p>\n

It was glorious.
\nAll of it.<\/p>\n

So what if he was coming on a little strong to some young models who had moved mountains to get into one of his parties?
\nSo what if he was exposing himself, in five-star hotel rooms, like a cartoon flasher out of \u201cMAD MAGAZINE\u201d (just swap robe for raincoat!)
\nWho were we to call foul?
\nGolden Geese don\u2019t come along too often in one\u2019s life.<\/p>\n

Which goes back to my original point:
\nEverybody-fucking-knew.
\nBut everybody was just having too good a time.
\nAnd doing remarkable work; making remarkable movies.<\/p>\n

As the old joke goes:
\nWe needed the eggs.<\/p>\n

Okay, maybe we didn\u2019t NEED them.
\nBut we really, really, really, really LIKED them eggs.
\nSo we were willing to overlook what the Golden Goose was up to, in the murky shadows behind the barn\u2026<\/p>\n

And for that, I am eternally sorry.
\nTo all of the women that had to suffer this\u2026
\nI am eternally sorry.
\nI\u2019ve worked with Mira and Rosanna and Lysette.
\nI\u2019ve known Rose and Ashley and Claire for years\u2026
\nTheir courage only hangs a lantern on my shame.
\nAnd I am eternally sorry to all those who suffered in silence all this time.
\nAnd have chosen to remain silent today.<\/p>\n

I mostly lost touch with the brothers by the early 2000s.
\nFor no specific reason.
\nJust that there were other jobs, other studios.
\nBut a few months ago, Harvey called me, out of the blue.
\nTo talk about the bygone days.
\nTo talk about how great it would be to get some of the gang back together.
\nMake a movie.
\nHe must have known then the noose was tightening.
\nThere was a wistfulness to him that I had never heard before.
\nA melancholy.
\nIt most assuredly had a walking-to-the-gallows feel.
\nWhen we hung up I wondered: \u201cwhat was that all about?\u201d
\nIn a few short weeks I would know.
\nIt was the condemned man simply wanting to comb some of the ruins of his old stomping grounds.
\nOne last time.<\/p>\n

So, yeah, I am sorry.
\nSorry and ashamed.
\nBecause, in the end, I was complicit.
\nI didn\u2019t say shit.
\nI didn\u2019t do shit.
\nHarvey was nothing but wonderful to me.
\nSo I reaped the rewards and I kept my mouth shut.
\nAnd for that, once again, I am sorry.<\/p>\n

But you should be sorry, too.
\nWith all these victims speaking up\u2026
\nTo tell their tales.
\nShouldn\u2019t those who witnessed it from the sidelines do the same?
\nInstead of retreating to the cowardly, canopied confines of faux-outrage?
\nDoesn\u2019t being a bystander bring with it the responsibility of telling the truth, however personally disgraceful it may be?<\/p>\n

You know who are.
\nYou know that you knew.
\nAnd do you know how I know that you knew?<\/p>\n

Because I was there with you.<\/p>\n

And because everybody-fucking-knew.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

So far, movie stars such as Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and George Clooney are among many of Tinsel Town’s royalty claiming they were unaware of Weinstein’s abusive actions.<\/p>\n
