The attack occurred at the end of a three-day country music festival held over the weekend on the Las Vegas Strip. The\u00a0event drew a diverse crowd of thousands of music fans, and police said\u00a0the audience was more than 22,000 strong when gunshots rang out about 10 p.m. Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>CBS confirmed to The Washington Post on Monday that Geftman-Gold was dismissed for her \u201cdeeply unacceptable\u201d comments on social media.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis individual, who was with us for approximately one year, violated the standards of our company and is no longer an employee of CBS,\u201d\u00a0the company\u00a0said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHer views as expressed on social media are deeply unacceptable to all of us at CBS. Our hearts go out to the victims in Las Vegas and their families.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her posts have since been deleted.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Caller, a right-leaning outlet, first\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2017\/10\/02\/cbs-legal-exec-no-sympathy-because-country-music-fans-often-are-republican\/\">reported<\/a>\u00a0on Geftman-Gold\u2019s post Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Geftman-Gold\u00a0apologized for her \u201cshameful\u201d post and is \u201cdeeply sorry for diminishing the significance of every life affected\u201d by the gunman\u2019s terrorism, according to a statement provided to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/entertainment\/2017\/10\/02\/top-cbs-lawyer-no-sympathy-for-vegas-vics-probably-republicans.html\">Fox News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEarlier today I posted an indefensible post in a Facebook discussion thread concerning the tragic Las Vegas shooting, a statement I sincerely regret.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.change.org\/p\/pamela-mcdevitt-esq-executive-director-hayley-geftman-gold-esq-bar-complaint-for-professional-misconduct-against\">petition<\/a>\u00a0addressed to the New York State Bar Association has been posted online condemning Geftman-Gold\u2019s\u00a0\u201cprofessional misconduct,\u201d and had more than 1,000 signatures as of early Monday evening.<\/p>\n<p>The Las Vegas gunman has been identified by police as\u00a064-year-old\u00a0Stephen Paddock. He was found dead in his hotel room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, where he had opened fire on concertgoers on the ground below. President Trump tweeted\u00a0his \u201cwarmest condolences and sympathies\u201d to the victims early Monday, called the shooting \u201can act of pure evil,\u201d<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/post-politics\/wp\/2017\/10\/02\/trump-plans-to-visit-las-vegas-on-wednesday-calls-shooting-an-act-of-pure-evil\/?utm_term=.2bf07aa47730\">plans to travel to Las Vegas<\/a>\u00a0on Wednesday. Meanwhile,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/worldviews\/wp\/2017\/10\/02\/appalling-awful-and-clearly-an-act-of-terror-the-world-reacts-to-las-vegas-attack\/?utm_term=.a2fee9ddd99a\">foreign leaders around the world<\/a>\u00a0sent their condolences to victims and condemned the attack.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/arts-and-entertainment\/wp\/2017\/10\/02\/stunned-country-music-community-mourns-after-mass-shooting-in-las-vegas\/?utm_term=.870f298879dc\">country music community also responded<\/a>, mourning the tragedy in social media posts. Caleb Keeter, the lead guitarist for the Texas-based Josh Abbott Band, which performed at the Route 91 Harvest festival Sunday afternoon,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/Calebkeeter\/status\/914872808110510080\">tweeted\u00a0a lengthy personal response<\/a>\u00a0to the attack, explaining how the tragedy has forced him to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/arts-and-entertainment\/wp\/2017\/10\/02\/i-cannot-express-how-wrong-i-was-country-guitarist-changes-mind-on-gun-control-after-vegas\/?utm_term=.007c7cde1587\">rethink his stance on gun control<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been a proponent of the 2nd amendment my entire life. Until the events of last night. I cannot express how wrong I was.
