Imagine the most foaming-at-the-mouth Russophobia you\u2019ve ever witnessed and multiply it by ten, and you\u2019ve got Freeman\u2019s message. The man from Memphis who earned plaudits for his performances in movies such as The Shawshank Redemption, has morphed into an octogenarian version of Anne Applebaum on steroids.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;We have been attacked&#8221;<\/em>, Freeman declares at the start of the video.\u00a0<em>&#8220;We are at war&#8221;<\/em>. Well, this much is true. The US has been at war with lots of countries for some time now. War is what America does. But Freeman isn\u2019t talking about the illegal invasion of Iraq, the 78-day bombing of Yugoslavia, the dropping of the \u2018Mother of All Bombs\u2019 on Afghanistan, or the destruction of Libya. He\u2019s talking about a non-existent attack on the country which does all the attacking.<\/p>\n<p>He then goes into full Hollywood fantasy mode, asking us to imagine a\u00a0<em>\u201cscript\u201d<\/em>\u00a0in which\u00a0<em>\u201ca former KGB spy, angry at the collapse of his Motherland, plots a course for revenge\u201d.<\/em>\u00a0He is referring to Vladimir Putin, the man who was so hell-bent on\u00a0<em>\u201crevenge\u201d<\/em>\u00a0against the US, that he was the first world leader to pick up the phone after 9\/11 to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.edition.cnn.com\/2002\/WORLD\/europe\/09\/10\/ar911.russia.putin\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">offer his condolences<\/a>\u00a0to George Bush.<\/p>\n<p>Not only that, but the \u2018former KGB spy\u2019 has called repeatedly for Russia and \u2018his sworn enemy\u2019 to work together on solving global issues such as terrorism. The truth is that the \u2018former KGB spy\u2019 has bent over backwards to be friendly to the US, while the US has repaid him by sanctioning his country and portraying him as the \u2018New Hitler\u2019. If we must talk about \u2018revenge&#8217; then it\u2019s the vindictive neocon war lobby who are plotting a course for it, against Russia, for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rt.com\/op-edge\/403729-us-blame-russia-reason-syria-war\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">thwarting<\/a>\u00a0their plans for a violent regime change against the secular government in Syria.<\/p>\n<p>But Freeman won\u2019t mention that, because he is the public face of a new neocon operation against Russia.<\/p>\n<p>The old actor then accuses the evil \u2018former KGB spy\u2019 (boo and hiss in the front row, please) of\u00a0<em>\u201csecretly using cyber warfare to attack democracies around the world\u201d<\/em>\u00a0&#8211; and using social media to\u00a0<em>\u201cspread propaganda and false information,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0to convince people in\u00a0<em>\u201cdemocratic societies\u201d<\/em>\u00a0to\u00a0<em>\u201cdistrust their media, their political processes, even their neighbours.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>How utterly disgusting! Well it would be if it were true. But of course it isn\u2019t. Neocon propaganda never is. Remember those Iraqi WMDs, the \u2018genocide\u2019 in Kosovo and the claims that Iran was developing nukes? All hogwash, just like \u2018Russiagate\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>No credible evidence has been produced that Russia has been\u00a0<em>&#8220;using cyber-warfare to attack democracies around the world&#8221;<\/em>. It\u2019s a conspiracy theory put around by people who write books and articles about conspiracy theories. And it\u2019s not been any Russian use of \u2018social media\u2019 which has caused people in the US to distrust their newspapers and television networks &#8211; but the way such media has been caught out spreading blatantly fake news &#8211; like the claim that Saddam possessed WMDs.<\/p>\n<p>Americans can see for themselves what a rotten charade their own political process is by simply observing that whoever they elect, Wall Street and the military-industrial complex remains firmly in charge. As for Putin getting people to distrust their neighbors; this surely has to be the barmiest claim from the Russophobes yet. If Mort and Walt have a fight over the height of a garden fence in Milwaukee, then only a total nut job could blame the Kremlin. Or perhaps the \u2018former KGB spy\u2019 sent \u2018thought messages\u2019 across to Mort making him suspicious of neighbor Walt\u2019s plan to erect a gazebo\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Freeman boldly declares\u00a0<em>\u201cthe free world is counting on us for our leadership.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Really, old boy? The last time I checked the calendar it was 2017, not 1947. The world &#8211; whether the State Department classes it as \u2018free\u2019 or \u2018non-free\u2019 &#8211; has seen what the death and destruction the US and its closest allies have caused across the world in recent decades. The assault on Iraq led directly to the rise of ISIS. The attack on Libya transformed the country with the highest Human Development Index in Africa into a jihadists\u2019 playground on the shores of the Mediterranean. The obsession with toppling a government friendly to Russia in Afghanistan, gave us Al-Qaeda.<\/p>\n<div class=\"rtcode\"><\/div>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I am speechless. In fact, polls consistently show that the US is regarded by citizens of the world as the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2017-08-07\/us-greatest-threat-peace-world-today-new-poll-finds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">greatest threat<\/a>\u00a0to peace.<\/p>\n<p>Clearly Morgan Freeman hasn\u2019t heard about this. He really needs to get out more.<\/p>\n<p>At 1 minute, 41 seconds into his speech, Freeman then makes arguably his most outrageous and big-headed statement of all.\u00a0<em>\u201cFor 241 years our democracy has been a shining example to the world of what we can all aspire to.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s speaking about a country where slavery was only abolished in 1865, and enforced racial segregation on buses only ended in the 1950s. For all its razzmatazz, \u2018democracy\u2019 in the US boils down to the choice of two almost identical \u2018Pepsi or Coke\u2019, pro-war big business parties. Whoever wins, the policies on the things that really matter, stay the same.<\/p>\n<p>Not only that, the US has\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rt.com\/op-edge\/401594-us-afghanistan-trump-war\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">destroyed<\/a>\u00a0genuine democracy in many countries around the world, illegally toppling governments which don\u2019t meet with the State Department\u2019s approval- and meddling in foreign elections in order to get the \u2018desired\u2019 result.<\/p>\n<p>Yet Freeman has the nerve to accuse Russia of doing what US does on a regular basis- including to Russia in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/content.time.com\/time\/covers\/0,16641,19960715,00.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">1996 Presidential election<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As Freeman\u2019s video nears its end there are the inevitable shots of American servicemen in action during World War Two.\u00a0<em>&#8220;We owe it to the brave people who have fought and died to protect this great nation and save democracy- and we owe it to our future generations &#8211; to continue the fight.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>US soldiers were brave in World War Two, no one disputes that, but there\u2019s no mention that in the fight against the Nazis, in which the US lost around 418,000 people, the Russians and Soviets lost 27m. That wouldn\u2019t quite fit the narrative of \u2018The Exceptional Nation\u2019 and the \u2018Exceptional Nation\u2019 alone saving the \u2018free world\u2019, would it?<\/p>\n<p>Freeman\u2019s video ends with a call to arms:\u00a0<em>&#8220;Join the Committee to Investigate Russia &#8211; because the world depends on it!&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"rtcode\"><\/div>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The neocons who want to investigate Russia at <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/InvestigateRU?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@InvestigateRU<\/a> don&#39;t know who the current Russian ambassador to the US is. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/jONPEm0gvQ\">pic.twitter.com\/jONPEm0gvQ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Max Blumenthal (@MaxBlumenthal) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MaxBlumenthal\/status\/910389204743487489?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 20, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>In fact, the only Committee genuine democrats should be joining is one to investigate the Committee to Investigate Russia. The job wouldn\u2019t take too long, as you don\u2018t need to be Lieutenant Colombo to work out \u2018whodunit?\u2019 and what their motive is. The launch of the group was announced on Tuesday by the Hollywood film director and staunch Hillary Clinton fan boy Rob Reiner, and David Frum, the hardcore neocon and former Bush speechwriter who coined the notorious phrase \u2018Axis of Evil\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I don\u2019t know that the public understands the gravity of what the Russians were able to do and and continue to do here in the United States. They\u2019ve attacked us. They\u2019re trying to undermine our democracy,&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0Reiner\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/videos\/politics\/2017\/09\/19\/reiner-frum-launch-committee-to-investigate-russia-sot-newday.cnn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told<\/a>\u00a0CNN.<\/p>\n<p>The plot of his 1987 fairy tale adventure, The Princess Bride, which involves the rescue of the lovely Princess Buttercup from the hideous Prince Humperdinck, is more plausible than the Reds under the beds narrative he is currently spinning.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/investigaterussia.org\/advisory-board\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">members<\/a>\u00a0of the CIR\u2019s \u2018Advisory Board\u2019 are neocon blogger and CFR fellow Max Boot, Norman Ornstein, a resident scholar at the neocon think tank, the AEI, James Clapper, former DNI director, and Charles Sykes, a right-wing chat show host. Yet, we\u2019re supposed to believe that it\u2019s all a \u2018progressive\u2019 cause in support of \u2018democracy\u2019, because the man who makes the video once played God and Nelson Mandela.<\/p>\n<p>The CIR shows us the strong links between \u2018liberal\u2019 Hollywood, the deep state and the neocon aristocracy. In fact,it comes just a fortnight after the Independent newspaper in Britain\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/voices\/hollywood-cia-washington-dc-films-fbi-24-intervening-close-relationship-a7918191.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">revealed<\/a>\u00a0that\u00a0<em>&#8220;the relationship between US national security and Hollywood is much deeper and more political than anyone has ever acknowledged.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Files the paper obtained showed that between 1911 and 2017 over 800 feature films received financial support from the US Department of Defense. Over 900 television titles had received Pentagon backing since 2005. The CIA has had an entertainment liaison office in Hollywood since 1996. Hollywood stars were wheeled out to blast Trump, but now the emphasis has changed. It\u2018s Russia that\u2019s in the line of fire.
