(Joe Raedle\/Getty Images)<\/p><\/div><\/p>\n<p>By Jen Krausz<br \/>\nNEWSMAX<\/p>\n<p>A university professor who said Texans deserved Hurricane Harvey because they voted for President Donald Trump in the 2016 election has been fired.<\/p>\n<p>The University of Tampa fired a visiting professor of sociology Tuesday after he tweeted that Texans deserved Hurricane Harvey because they voted for President Donald Trump in the 2016 election.<\/p>\n<p>Kenneth Storey, a visiting professor of sociology at the University of Tampa, was fired after tweeting the hurricane felt like \u201cinstant Karma\u201d for Texans and that he hoped they would realize \u201cthe GOP doesn\u2019t care about them,\u201d according to screenshots\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.campusreform.org\/?ID=9660\" target=\"_self\"><strong>posted by Campus Reform<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"SandboxRoot env-bp-350\" data-twitter-event-id=\"0\"><\/div>\n<p>The original tweet was later deleted, but not before Storey defended it several times against commenters.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/2017\/08\/29\/florida-professor-who-tweeted-texans-deserved-harvey-for-supporting-trump-is-relieved-teaching-duties.html\" target=\"_self\"><strong>According to Fox News<\/strong><\/a>, Storey also wrote, \u201cWell the good people there need to do more to stop the evil their state pushes.\u201d He also said Trump supporters in Florida deserved a hurricane as well.<\/p>\n<p>After a strong backlash on Twitter, Storey deleted the comment and apologized. \u201cI deeply regret a statement I posted yesterday,\u201d he tweeted. \u201cI never meant to wish ill will on any group. I hope all affected by Harvey recover quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe condemn the comments and the sentiment behind them, and understand the pain this irresponsible act has caused,\u201d the University of Tampa said in a statement, Fox News reported. \u201cAs Floridians, we are well aware of the destruction and suffering associated with tropical weather.
