{"id":81029,"date":"2017-08-13T15:30:53","date_gmt":"2017-08-13T19:30:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=81029"},"modified":"2017-08-13T15:30:53","modified_gmt":"2017-08-13T19:30:53","slug":"google-has-no-clue-how-serious-this-infowar-will-become","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=81029","title":{"rendered":"Google has no clue how serious this infowar will become"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Ads posted outside Google offices slam CEO for firing controversial memo&#8217;s author<\/h1>\n<p><!--more-->Rachel Sandler, USA TODAY<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable-p-1 p-text\">SAN FRANCISCO \u2014 Anti-Google ads have appeared near\u00a0Google&#8217;s offices in Venice, Calif.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable-p-2 p-text\">The ads, which were first spotted by some on Twitter, call out Google&#8217;s response to a\u00a0memo that went viral last week after it lambasted\u00a0the company&#8217;s efforts to increase the number of women, African-Americans and Hispanics in technical roles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p-text\">In one of the ads, Google CEO Sundar Pichai is pictured side by side late Apple CEO Steve Jobs. Next to Jobs is a picture of the Apple logo with the company&#8217;s famous slogan &#8220;Think Different.&#8221; Next to Pichai is the Google logo but instead the text reads &#8220;Not So Much.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p-text\">This rogue billboard was pasted onto a bus stop board near Google&#8217;s offices in Venice Beach, on the corner of Rose Avenue and Main Street. Two bus benches get the treatment, with one, a repeat of the Jobs\/Pichai Photoshop job, and another displaying the word &#8220;Goolag&#8221; in the same type and color as Google&#8217;s logo, a reference to\u00a0Soviet\u00a0camps in which as many 30 million prisoners are estimated to have been starved or worked to death between 1918 and 1956. \u00a0The posters are side by side each other.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p-text\">It is not clear who is behind the ads, but the content echoes defenses of the memo&#8217;s author, James Damore, who was swiftly fired from Google after the memo was made public. He has not responded to interview requests from USA TODAY, but gave his first interviews to two alt-right YouTube personalities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p-text\">Damore&#8217;s\u00a0newly created Twitter account, which has the handle @fired4truth, includes a profile picture that shows him\u00a0wearing a t-shirt with the same &#8220;Goolag&#8221; logo displayed on the ads.
