Mark Taylor and Mary Colbert write in \u201cThe Trump Prophecies\u201d about the miracle of the 2016 election, and what the Body of Christ should do \u2013 now \u2013 for the nation.<\/a><\/i><\/p>\n\u201cAnd Manafort buddies fear that Mueller is hoping or trying to build a case against Manafort that\u2019s unrelated to the 2016 campaign.\u201d<\/p>\n
He continued: \u201cAnd if they can make a case \u2013 and, by the way, when they have unlimited money and a no-limitations scope and if they want to find somebody who has done something illegal, irregular, or if they want to create that \u2013 this is another thing \u2013 they can create a process crime. Very simply, a witness can tell Mueller\u2019s team, \u2018Yeah, that happened on Tuesday.\u2019 But what if it really happened on Wednesday? They can say the guy lied to \u2019em. Process crime.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe point is that once they find something to charge, then they\u2019ve got leverage, and then they can offer a deal. \u2018OK, Manafort, look what we found here. We found that back in 2008, you were doing X, and it led to event Y, and we don\u2019t think you want people to know about this. We\u2019re willing to let you go in this if you\u2019ll turn state\u2019s evidence or if you\u2019ll tell us what was actually going on between the Trump campaign and Russia.\u2019 That\u2019s the great fear,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
He said that\u2019s why it\u2019s a \u201cvery dangerous time.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cRemember, this is what did in Martha Stewart. They didn\u2019t find any evidence of any wrongdoing, so they created the crime during the investigation. It\u2019s become a staple, if you will, in the ammunition that prosecutors have at their disposal. If they want to get somebody, interview \u2019em 15 different times on the same subject. You get the point where the interviewee says, \u2018I\u2019ve told you this! I\u2019ve told you this 10 times. What more \u2026\u2019 \u2018We want to hear it again.\u2019 And if there\u2019s any variance, here comes the process charge. \u2018You lied to federal investigators. You lied to us!\u2019 \u2018I didn\u2019t lie. I got the date wrong.\u2019 \u2018You lied. That\u2019s the charge! We have the power, we have the ability, we have the desire to charge you.’\u201d<\/p>\n
He explained: \u201cThere\u2019s no limits on this, folks. It is a very dangerous time for everybody involved. And when I saw this predawn raid \u2026 Look, it caught me up short because he supposedly is cooperating. You just don\u2019t raid before everybody\u2019s up. I mean, here you\u2019re sleeping \u2013 you\u2019re soundly sleeping \u2013 and all of a sudden lights and sirens outside your house before the sun comes up, and it\u2019s the FBI with a search warrant?\u201d<\/p>\n

The San Diego Union-Tribune suggested the approach used by the FBI means Mueller didn\u2019t trust Manafort to provide documents to a grand jury.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnnamed sources told the Post that FBI agents seized some documents that Manfort had already given to Congress in its own separate investigation,\u201d said the report, which added that the New York Times later said agents seized tax documents and foreign banking records.<\/p>\n
The Union-Tribune also admitted, \u201cIt remains unclear what, if any, evidence the FBI will find that ties Manafort to a wider effort by Russians to influence the 2016 elections, but it signals the agency\u2019s willingness to leave no stone unturned.\u201d<\/p>\n
It also described Mueller\u2019s team of investigators, most of whom supported Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton, including financially, as an \u201call-star team.\u201d<\/p>\n
Online commenters pointed out there has been no such raid on former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, Hillary Clinton, Debbie Wasserman Schultz or others who were caught up in a wide range of allegations, including\u00a0mishandling classified information\u00a0and meeting secretly with the attorney general while a spouse is under investigation.<\/p>\n
Time magazine explained that the \u201cact of carrying out a search on a witness is a powerful psychological tool that can prompt a witness to become more forthcoming or name more targets.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a sign that lack of cooperation from the witness won\u2019t be take lightly.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Washington Post noted investigators may be intending to use Manafort \u201cas leverage.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cManafort\u2019s role in the Trump campaign isn\u2019t the only aspect of his life under federal investigation,\u201d the newspaper said, citing \u201cmoney laundering allegations,\u201d his work in Ukraine and more.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s significant leverage investigators have on Manafort. If they can\u2019t convince Manafort to cooperate on the Russia investigation \u2013 and this search warrant is evidence that they feel they couldn\u2019t \u2013 they could potentially force him to cooperate by threatening him with unrelated legal trouble.\u201d<\/p>\n
While media were suggesting some negative aspect of Manafort\u2019s case prompted the FBI action, others held another opinion.<\/p>\n
Fox News host Jon Scott suggested, \u201cSome might call it, I don\u2019t know, witness intimidation.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Heritage Foundation\u2019s Hans von Spakovsky told Scott, \u201cI frankly have a bad suspicion that this is part of Mueller\u2019s shock and awe to get back at critics of him and to show them that he may take advantage of the power he\u2019s got, particularly with regard to his critics.\u201d<\/p>\n
John Flannery, a former federal prosecutor, then claimed of von Spakovsky\u2019s concerns, \u201cThere\u2019s no evidence of that at all.\u201d<\/p>\n
