A Florida rehab facility is alleged to have recruited addicts with gift cards and visits to strip clubs, leading to $58 million in false treatments and tests.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Officials said those charged in the schemes include more than 120 people involved in illegally prescribing and distributing narcotic painkillers.\u201d\u00a0<span id=\"easy-footnote-1\" class=\"easy-footnote-margin-adjust\"><\/span><span class=\"easy-footnote\"><a style=\"box-sizing: border-box; background-color: transparent; color: #298c7e; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.healthnutnews.com\/largest-medical-fraud-takedown-american-history-more-than-400-doctors-nurses-pharmacists-arrested-for-scams-worth-1-3b-false-billing\/#easy-footnote-bottom-1\" data-hasqtip=\"0\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">In 2015, more than 52,000 Americans died of overdoses. In 2016, that number rose\u00a0to 59,000 Americans. Thanks to pharmaceutical companies who convinced physicians and other pharmacists that they had created drugs (like Oxycontin and Vicodin) that could treat pain but not be addictive, we are in the middle of a crisis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">And the other half of that crisis falls in the lap of the dishonest and greedy doctors, nurses and pharmacists who took part in the scheme. By overprescribing meds to the poor and elderly (and billing the federal government), targeting hospitals in disadvantages areas, and conducting self-seeking research projects in order to distribute inaccurate data to doctors and researchers,<span id=\"easy-footnote-2\" class=\"easy-footnote-margin-adjust\"><\/span><span class=\"easy-footnote\"><a style=\"box-sizing: border-box; background-color: transparent; color: #298c7e; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.healthnutnews.com\/largest-medical-fraud-takedown-american-history-more-than-400-doctors-nurses-pharmacists-arrested-for-scams-worth-1-3b-false-billing\/#easy-footnote-bottom-2\" data-hasqtip=\"1\"><sup>2<\/sup><\/a><\/span>\u00a0thousands of people have died or become addicted. (In West Virginia alone, between the years of\u00a02007 and 2012,<strong>\u00a0780,000,000 hydrocodone and oxycodone pills were sold.<\/strong>)<\/p>\n<div id=\"mol-50983aa0-6822-11e7-b93b-7193fc213418\" class=\"art-ins mol-factbox news\" data-version=\"2\">\n<div class=\"ins cleared mol-factbox-body\">\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">\u201cWhile there are rules which require drug distributors and pharmacists to report abnormal orders of controlled medications, regulators didn\u2019t detect this loophole in their system.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">In fact, this opioid scam, which has been in effect for at least ten years, didn\u2019t come to light until disadvantaged and middle-class whites began dying in their numbers.\u201d\u00a0<span id=\"easy-footnote-3\" class=\"easy-footnote-margin-adjust\"><\/span><span class=\"easy-footnote\"><a style=\"box-sizing: border-box; background-color: transparent; color: #298c7e; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.healthnutnews.com\/largest-medical-fraud-takedown-american-history-more-than-400-doctors-nurses-pharmacists-arrested-for-scams-worth-1-3b-false-billing\/#easy-footnote-bottom-3\" data-hasqtip=\"2\"><sup>3<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">This isn\u2019t going to solve the problem but it\u2019s a good start.
