Report: Fusion GPS Co-Founder Won’t Testify to Congress<\/h1>\n

The co-founder of a political opposition firm that ordered an unsubstantiated Russian dossier on President Donald Trump will not testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee next week, according to news reports Thursday.<\/p>\n

Glenn Simpson, a former investigative reporter for The Wall Street Journal who founded Fusion GPS in Washington in 2009, will not testify Wednesday,\u00a0Politico reports.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Politico cited “two sources familiar with his plans.”<\/p>\n

The Judiciary Committee<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0listed Simpson on a schedule for a broader hearing into Americans and foreign lobbying.<\/p>\n

Simpson’s appearance was voluntary \u2013 and it was to occur in open session. Whether he would be subpoenaed remained unclear Thursday.<\/p>\n

Representatives for Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley, the Iowa Republican, and Democratic Vice Chair Dianne Feinstein of California did not respond to requests seeking comment, Politico reports.<\/p>\n

Grassley had threatened last month to subpoena Fusion GPS if it had not provided information about the dossier, which was completed by Christopher Steele.<\/p>\n

The firm hired Steele, a former British spy, to investigate Trump.<\/p>\n

The unsubstantiated document claimed that Trump and Russia worked together to torpedo Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.<\/p>\n

It was published by BuzzFeed in January shortly after U.S. intelligence officials briefed then-President Barack Obama and Trump, who was president-elect, on the dossier’s contents.<\/p>\n
