Donald Trump<\/a>\u00a0has lashed out at the \u201cfake media\u201d, accusing it of trying to gag him and his supporters during a speech at an evangelical event honoring veterans in Washington.<\/p>\n \u201cThe fake media is trying to silence us, but we will not let them,\u201d he said. \u201cThe fake media tried to stop us from going to the White House. But I\u2019m president, and they\u2019re not,\u201d he told attendees at the John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.<\/p>\n The president suggested the press \u201cdestroyed themselves because they went too far\u201d and told supporters \u201cTheir agenda is not your agenda.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Before taking the podium, he took the rare move of\u00a0pinning one of his tweets<\/a>\u00a0to the top of his feed, one that appeared to shift his slogan from fake news to fraud news.<\/p>\n In an apparent swipe at his trouble in\u00a0applying a travel ban on people from some Muslim-majority countries<\/a>, he told the gathering the threat of terrorism was \u201cone of the most grave and dire threats to religious freedom in the world today.\u201d<\/p>\n He said: \u201cWe cannot allow this terrorism and extremism to spread in our country, or to find sanctuary on our shores or in our cities. We want to make sure that anyone who seeks to join our country shares our values and has the capacity to love our people.\u201d<\/p>\n At the Saturday night \u201ccelebrate freedom\u201d concert he worked to energize evangelicals in his political base, noting that the US currency was inscribed with the words: \u201cIn God we trust.\u201d<\/p>\n Trump appeared on a stage decorated with a massive American flag.
