{"id":75477,"date":"2017-06-16T10:56:59","date_gmt":"2017-06-16T14:56:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=75477"},"modified":"2017-06-16T10:57:32","modified_gmt":"2017-06-16T14:57:32","slug":"rosenstein-says-he-may-need-to-recuse-himself-in-russia-probe-abc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=75477","title":{"rendered":"Rosenstein Says He May Need To Recuse Himself In Russia Probe: ABC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--more-->ZeroHedege.com<\/p>\n<p>This morning is becoming very chaotic for Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, a man who has historically maintained a very low profile at the Department of Justice.\u00a0 After<a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2017-06-16\/stunning-announcement-doj-warns-americans-not-trust-stories-based-anonymous-official\"> issuing a rather uncharacteristic and cryptic statement <\/a>last night urging Americans not to trust &#8220;anonymously-sourced&#8221; new stories (a statement that many have speculated is attributable to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2017-06-15\/jared-kushner-under-investigation-special-counsel-wapo\">Wapo&#8217;s latest anonymously-sourced headline<\/a> from last night) and being <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2017-06-16\/trump-blasts-deputy-ag-rosenstein-he-told-me-fire-fbi-director-witch-hunt\">blasted by President Trump this morning<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/deputy-attorney-general-privately-acknowledges-recuse-russia-probe\/story?id=48080253&amp;cid=social_twitter_abcn\">ABC<\/a> is reporting that Rosenstein has privately acknowledged that he may need to recuse himself in Mueller&#8217;s Russia probe.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The senior Justice Department official with ultimate authority over the special counsel&#8217;s probe of Russia&#8217;s alleged meddling in the 2016 election <strong>has privately acknowledged to colleagues that he may have to recuse himself from the matter,<\/strong> which he took charge of only after Attorney General Jeff Sessions&#8217; own recusal, sources tell ABC News.<\/p>\n<p>Those private remarks from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein are significant because they reflect the widening nature of the federal probe, which now includes a preliminary inquiry into whether President Donald Trump attempted to obstruct justice when he allegedly tried to curtail the probe and then fired James Comey as FBI director.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/user230519\/imageroot\/2017\/06\/16\/2017.06.16%20-%20Rosenstein%20Oath_0.JPG\" alt=\"Rosenstein\" width=\"600\" height=\"358\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Of course, the next most logical question becomes who would step in to fill Rosenstein&#8217;s shoes?\u00a0 According to ABC, that obligation would fall upon <strong>Associate Attorney General Rachel Brand.<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Rosenstein, who authored an extensive and publicly-released memorandum recommending Comey&#8217;s firing, raised the possibility of his recusal during a recent meeting with Associate Attorney General Rachel Brand, the Justice Department&#8217;s new third-in-command, according to sources.<\/p>\n<p>In the recent meeting with Brand, <strong>Rosenstein told her that if he were to recuse himself, she would have to step in and take over those responsibilities.
