{"id":74589,"date":"2017-06-08T20:01:14","date_gmt":"2017-06-09T00:01:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=74589"},"modified":"2017-06-09T07:04:55","modified_gmt":"2017-06-09T11:04:55","slug":"cnn-makes-rare-retraction-of-fake-news-contrary-to-comeys-testimony","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=74589","title":{"rendered":"CNN Makes Rare Retraction of Fake News, False Report Contrary To Comey&#8217;s Testimony"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>CNN issues correction after Comey statement contradicts reporting<\/h1>\n<p><!--more-->BY JOE CONCHA<br \/>\nThe Hill<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/launch.newsinc.com\/?type=VideoPlayer\/Single&amp;widgetId=1&amp;trackingGroup=69016&amp;playlistId=19132&amp;siteSection=thehill2300_nws_pol_sec&amp;videoId=32525800\" width=\"590\" height=\"332\" frameborder=\"no\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>CNN has corrected a Tuesday report after the release of former FBI Director James Comey&#8217;s opening statement for his Thursday testimony in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee contradicted the report&#8217;s sources.<\/p>\n<p>The CNN report said Comey was expected to dispute President Trump&#8217;s claims that Comey said he was not under investigation on multiple occasions.<\/p>\n<p>The report, titled \u201cComey expected to refute Trump,&#8221; was based on unnamed sources and said Comey&#8217;s conversations with the president &#8220;were much more nuanced,&#8221; and that Trump drew the wrong conclusion.<\/p>\n<p>The story was compiled by four CNN journalists, including Gloria Borger, Eric Lichtblau, Jake Tapper and Brian Rokus.<\/p>\n<p>Borger reiterated the report&#8217;s claims in an appearance on CNN on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cComey is going to dispute the president on this point if he\u2019s asked about it by senators, and we have to assume that he will be,&#8221; said Borger, the network&#8217;s chief political analyst. &#8220;He will say he never assured <span class=\"rollover-people\" data-behavior=\"rolloverpeople\"><a class=\"rollover-people-link\" href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/donald-trump\" data-nid=\"261287\">Donald Trump<\/a><\/span> that he was not under investigation, that that would have been improper for him to do so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Comey&#8217;s opening statement did, however, mention asserting that Trump was not under investigation; however, the statement failed to specify whether Trump was not under criminal investigation, only saying there was no counterintelligence investigation on the president.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Prior to the January 6 meeting, I discussed with the FBI\u2019s leadership team whether I should be prepared to assure President-Elect Trump that we were not investigating him personally,&#8221; wrote Comey. &#8220;That was true; we did not have an open counter-intelligence case on him.
