Colbert Trades Insults With President Trump on Behalf of \u2018Face the Nation\u2019 Reporter<\/h1>\n<\/header>\n

On The Late Show<\/em><\/a>, Stephen Colbert<\/a> zeroed in on a recent Face the Nation<\/em> interview<\/a>\u00a0in which\u00a0host John Dickerson asked President Trump<\/a> if he still thought former President Barack Obama had wiretapped him. Trump wasn\u2019t having it; he cut the interview\u00a0short, and then ambled over to his Oval Office desk, where he began shuffling a stack of papers in the universal \u201cPlease leave my office now\u201d gesture.<\/p>\n

The incredibly awkward moment between a national reporter and the leader of the free world had Colbert\u2019s audience breaking into shocked laughter, while Colbert imagined some other creative ways Trump might\u2019ve tried to get rid of the pesky reporter. \u201cGotta do something about the nation of Charministan,\u201d he joked, while pretending a roll of toilet paper was some sort of briefing scroll. \u201cWe must wipe them off the map. Is Dickerson still over there? I don\u2019t wanna look.\u201d<\/p>\n

As Colbert pointed out, Trump reserved his sharpest dismissal of Dickerson for when he called his show \u201cDeface the Nation\u201d and accused him of being part of the \u201cfake media.\u201d That got Colbert, a fellow member of the CBS family, pretty worked up. \u201cJohn Dickerson has way too much dignity to trade insults with the president of the United States to his face. But I, sir, am no John Dickerson,\u201d he intoned before launching into a series of barbs. \u201cMr. Trump, your presidency, I love your presidency. I call it \u2018Disgrace the Nation.\u2019 You\u2019re not the POTUS, you\u2019re the BLOTUS. You\u2019re the glutton with the button. You\u2019re a regular Gorge Washington. You\u2019re the Presi-dunce, but you are turning into a real Prick-tator. Sir, you attract more skinheads than free Rogaine.\u201d<\/p>\n

Colbert\u2019s not one for pulling punches, famously mocking President Bush with a nearly half-hour ironic defense of his policies at the 2006 White House Correspondents\u2019 Dinner. And with his late-night viewership seeming to rise as President Trump\u2019s ratings falter, it\u2019s unlikely to stop any time soon.<\/p>\n
