{"id":71481,"date":"2017-04-18T15:55:56","date_gmt":"2017-04-18T19:55:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=71481"},"modified":"2017-04-18T16:02:20","modified_gmt":"2017-04-18T20:02:20","slug":"jared-kushners-wikipedia-page-political-activity-section","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=71481","title":{"rendered":"Jared Kushner&#8217;s Wikipedia page &#8212; &#8220;Political Activity&#8221; section"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--more-->Jared Kushner page<br \/>\nWikipedia.org<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"Political_activity\" class=\"mw-headline\">Political activity<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><strong><span id=\"Earlier_career_and_family_history\" class=\"mw-headline\">Earlier career and family history<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Jared Kushner had been <strong>a life-long Democrat and had made major donations to its candidates for years<\/strong> before reportedly undergoing an &#8220;ideological conversion&#8221; and supporting the 2015\u201316 Trump campaign.<sup id=\"cite_ref-49\" class=\"reference\">[48]<\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-50\" class=\"reference\">[49]<\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-51\" class=\"reference\">[50]<\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-52\" class=\"reference\">[51]<\/sup> Kushner has had no prior involvement in campaign politics or in government before his father-in-law, Trump&#8217;s, campaign.<sup id=\"cite_ref-53\" class=\"reference\">[52]<\/sup><\/p>\n<h3><strong><span id=\"Trump_presidential_campaign\" class=\"mw-headline\">Trump presidential campaign<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>From the outset of the presidential campaign of his father-in-law Donald Trump, Kushner was the architect of Trump&#8217;s digital, online and social media campaigns, enlisting talent from Silicon Valley to run a 100-person social-media team dubbed &#8220;Project Alamo&#8221;.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Vanity_Fair_7-1\" class=\"reference\">[7]<\/sup> Kushner has also helped as a speechwriter and was tasked with working to establish a plan for Trump&#8217;s White House transition team should he be elected.<sup id=\"cite_ref-54\" class=\"reference\">[53]<\/sup> He was for a time <strong>seen as Trump&#8217;s <i>de facto<\/i> campaign manager<\/strong>, succeeding Corey Lewandowski, <strong>who was fired in part on Kushner&#8217;s recommendation<\/strong> in June 2016.<sup id=\"cite_ref-55\" class=\"reference\">[54]<\/sup> He has been intimately involved with campaign strategy, coordinating Trump&#8217;s visit in late August to Mexico and <strong>he was believed to be responsible for the choice of Mike Pence as Trump&#8217;s running mate<\/strong>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Vanity_Fair_7-2\" class=\"reference\">[7]<\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-56\" class=\"reference\">[55]<\/sup> Kushner&#8217;s &#8220;sprawling digital fundraising database and social media campaign&#8221; has been described as &#8220;the locus of his father-in-law\u2019s presidential bid&#8221;.<sup id=\"cite_ref-57\" class=\"reference\">[56]<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>According to Eric Schmidt, &#8220;Jared Kushner is the biggest surprise of the 2016 election, <strong>Best I can tell, he actually ran the campaign and did it with essentially no resources.<\/strong>&#8220;<sup id=\"cite_ref-ReferenceA_5-1\" class=\"reference\">[5]<\/sup> Eric Schmidt said, &#8220;Jared understood the online world in a way the traditional media folks didn&#8217;t. He managed to assemble a presidential campaign on a shoestring using new technology and won. That&#8217;s a big deal. Remember all those articles about how they had no money, no people, organizational structure? Well, they won, and Jared ran it.&#8221;<sup id=\"cite_ref-ReferenceA_5-2\" class=\"reference\">[5]<\/sup> Peter Thiel said <strong>&#8220;If Trump was the CEO, Jared was effectively the chief operating officer.\u201d<\/strong><sup id=\"cite_ref-ReferenceA_5-3\" class=\"reference\">[5]<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>On July 5, 2016, Kushner wrote an open letter in the <i>New York Observer<\/i> addressing the controversy around a tweet from the Trump campaign containing allegedly antisemitic imagery. He was responding to his own paper&#8217;s editorial by Dana Schwartz criticizing Kushner&#8217;s involvement with the Trump campaign.<sup id=\"cite_ref-58\" class=\"reference\">[57]<\/sup> In the letter, Kushner wrote, &#8220;In my opinion, accusations like \u201cracist\u201d and \u201canti-Semite\u201d are being thrown around with a carelessness that risks rendering these words meaningless.&#8221;<sup id=\"cite_ref-59\" class=\"reference\">[58]<\/sup><\/p>\n<h3><strong><span id=\"Trump_presidential_transition\" class=\"mw-headline\">Trump presidential transition<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>During the presidential transition, Kushner was said to be <strong>his father-in-law&#8217;s &#8220;confidant&#8221;<sup id=\"cite_ref-60\" class=\"reference\">[59]<\/sup> and one of Donald Trump&#8217;s closest advisors<\/strong>, <strong>even more so than Trump&#8217;s four adult children<\/strong>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-61\" class=\"reference\">[60]<\/sup> Trump was reported to have <strong>requested the top-secret security clearance for him to attend the Presidential daily intelligence briefings as his staff-level companion<\/strong>, along with General Mike Flynn who already had the clearance prior to his resignation.<sup id=\"cite_ref-62\" class=\"reference\">[61]<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>The Washington Post, New York Times and numerous other national news authorities explain Kushner was an influential factor <strong>behind the firing of New Jersey governor Chris Christie as head of the transition team<\/strong>, as well as the dismissal from the Donald Trump transition team of anyone connected to Christie.<sup id=\"cite_ref-63\" class=\"reference\">[62]<\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-64\" class=\"reference\">[63]<\/sup> A source familiar with the Trump campaign explained that \u201cJared doesn\u2019t like Christie. He\u2019s always held [the prosecution of his father, Charles Kushner] against Christie.\u201d<sup id=\"cite_ref-65\" class=\"reference\">[64]<\/sup> Kushner told <i>Forbes<\/i> that the reports that he was involved in Christie&#8217;s dismissal were false: \u201cSix months ago Governor Christie and I decided this election was much bigger than any differences we may have had in the past, and we worked very well together. The media has speculated on a lot of different things, and since I don&#8217;t talk to the press, they go as they go, but I was not behind pushing out him or his people.\u201d<sup id=\"cite_ref-forbes.com_66-0\" class=\"reference\">[65]<\/sup><\/p>\n<h3><strong><span id=\"Senior_Advisor_to_President_Trump\" class=\"mw-headline\">Senior Advisor to President Trump<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In January 2017, <strong>Kushner was named a Senior White House Advisor to President Trump<\/strong>. <strong>Kushner&#8217;s appointment was questioned on the basis of a 1967 anti-nepotism law<\/strong>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-67\" class=\"reference\">[66]<\/sup> On January 20, 2017 the Department of Justice Office of Legal Counsel issued an opinion stating &#8220;the President may appoint relatives to his immediate staff of advisors.&#8221;<sup id=\"cite_ref-68\" class=\"reference\">[67]<\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-69\" class=\"reference\">[68]<\/sup> Kushner was sworn in on January 22, 2017.<sup id=\"cite_ref-70\" class=\"reference\">[69]<\/sup><\/p>\n<p><strong>Trump put Kushner in charge of brokering peace in Israeli\u2013Palestinian conflict as well as making deals with foreign countries<\/strong>, although in what way he is in charge is unclear.<sup id=\"cite_ref-71\" class=\"reference\">[70]<\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-72\" class=\"reference\">[71]<\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-73\" class=\"reference\">[72]<\/sup> Furthermore, after Donald Trump became President-elect, <strong>Kushner and his wife met with Japanese Prime Minister and other Japanese officials while his wife was conducting a licensing deal between her namesake clothing brand and a Japanese government-owned company<\/strong>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Ivanka_Trump.27s_meeting_with_the_Japanese_prime_minister_looks_even_worse_now_74-0\" class=\"reference\">[73]<\/sup> His wife sat in on a meeting between her father, then President-elect Donald Trump and Japan&#8217;s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.<sup id=\"cite_ref-75\" class=\"reference\">[74]<\/sup> In February 2017, his wife Ivanka Trump was a surprise attendee at the Chinese Embassy\u2019s New Year\u2019s party.<sup id=\"cite_ref-76\" class=\"reference\">[75]<\/sup> In late March 2017 <strong>he was also given the new role of leading the &#8220;White House Office of American Innovation&#8221;<\/strong>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-TheHill_White_House_innovation_office_77-0\" class=\"reference\">[76]<\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-TechCrunch_White_House_office_for_.E2.80.98American_Innovation.E2.80.99_78-0\" class=\"reference\">[77]<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Around April 2017, it was revealed that <strong>Kushner failed to disclose, that he had met with Russian officials, including the head of a Moscow government-owned bank, Vnesheconombank, and the Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak, on his top secret security clearance application form<\/strong>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-79\" class=\"reference\">[78]<\/sup> Kushner\u2019s lawyer has called the omissions an \u201coversight.\u201d <strong>Democratic lawmakers, including some members of the House of Representatives have called for suspension or revoking of Kushner\u2019s security clearance<\/strong>, and have written request letters to the Director of the FBI James Comey and Charles Phalen, director of the National Background Investigations Bureau.<sup id=\"cite_ref-80\" class=\"reference\">[79]<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>___<br \/>\n<a
