Steve Bannon Calls Jared Kushner a \u2018Cuck\u2019 and \u2018Globalist\u2019 Behind His Back<\/h1>\n

Donald Trump\u2019s two closest aides are fighting \u201cnonstop\u201d and often \u201cface-to-face,\u201d officials say \u2014\u00a0and it\u2019s even uglier in private.<\/h3>\n

Donald Trump\u2019s chief strategist Stephen Bannon<\/a> has called the president\u2019s senior advisor and son-in-law Jared Kushner<\/a> a \u201ccuck\u201d and a \u201cglobalist\u201d during a time of high tension between the two top aides, several Trump administration officials told The Daily Beast.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The fighting between Kushner and Bannon has been \u201cnonstop\u201d in recent weeks, according to sources who spoke on condition of anonymity. It\u2019s been an \u201copen secret\u201d that Bannon and Kushner often clash \u201cface-to-face,\u201d according to senior officials.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

One official said Bannon has lately complained about Kushner trying to \u201cshiv him and push him out the door\u201d and likened him to a fifth column in the White House.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201c[Steve] recently vented to us about Jared being a \u2018globalist\u2019 and a \u2018cuck\u2019\u2026He actually said \u2018cuck,\u2019 as in \u201ccuckservative,\u2019\u201d the administration official told The Daily Beast.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cCuckservative,\u201d a portmanteau of \u201ccuckold\u201d and \u201cconservative,\u201d has become a favorite slur on the right, used like a sexually and racially charged version of \u201cRINO,\u201d a Republican In Name Only. \u201cGlobalist\u201d is a term typically used by nationalist, pro-Trump right-wingers against political opponents; however, the term has also come under fire<\/a> for at times carrying anti-Semitic tones. (Kushner is Jewish.)<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Bannon is a self-described \u201cnationalist<\/a>\u201d and long-time Republican, while Kushner was, until his father-in-law ran for president, a lifelong liberal and a Democratic donor.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a big fight [going on],\u201d one senior official said. \u201cIt\u2019s all about policy. There\u2019s tension [between them] on trade, health care, immigration, taxes, [terrorism]\u2014you name it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The White House and Bannon did not respond to emails seeking comment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

One senior Trump aide said that Bannon was also frustrated with Kushner \u201ccontinuing to bring in Zeke Emanuel to discuss health care options,\u201d for instance. The aide said Emanuel has had three White House meetings, including one with Trump.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

In 2009, conservatives called Emanuel \u201cDr. Death\u201d for advocating for end-of-life consultations during the crafting of the Affordable Care Act. (He is also the brother of Barack Obama\u2019s former chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel.)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

“Steve thinks Jared is worse than a Democrat, basically,” another official close to Bannon said. “[Steve] has a very specific vision for what he believes, and what he shares [ideologically] with Trump. And he has for a long time now seen [Jared] as a major obstacle to achieving that.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Bannon was removed from his post on the National Security Council on Wednesday. One senior Trump administration official told The Daily Beast on Wednesday morning that Bannon was “only on [NSC] to babysit [Michael] Flynn” because Trump “was losing faith” in Flynn, and that Bannon “never went to meetings.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The official also said that the removal had been planned for a while and that it was “in the works from the day” Bannon met National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster. Another senior aide told the Beast that “that’s [all] spin and CYA, but fine<\/a>,” but mentioned that Bannon still has security clearance.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Furthermore, two big efforts spearheaded by Bannon in the Trump administration recently failed. Trump\u2019s \u201cMuslim ban\u201d executive orders, crafted in large part by Bannon, are at best indefinitely tied up in court, and his pugilistic push on Trumpcare \u2014 which included Bannon urging Trump to \u201ckeep a shit list\u201d of Republicans who opposed<\/a> him \u2014 didn\u2019t get the job done.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

On Wednesday, Politico<\/a> and The New York Times<\/i><\/a> reported that things had gotten so heated and tense that Bannon was even considering tendering his resignation<\/a>. Bannon told Politico this was \u201ctotal nonsense.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

However, it\u2019s clear that Kushner has been expanding his reach and level of influence in Trump\u2019s core circle of advisers, and that the two men are essentially working against one another as they attempt to keep the president\u2019s ear and affections.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cI love a gunfight,\u201d Bannon told his associates and allies since Wednesday, according to Axios<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The Times<\/i> also reported that \u201cBannon\u2019s Svengali-style reputation has chafed on a president who sees himself as the West Wing\u2019s only leading man,\u201d and that \u201cseveral associates said the president had quietly expressed annoyance over the credit Mr. Bannon had received for setting the agenda\u2014and Mr. Trump was not pleased by the \u2018President Bannon\u2019 puppet-master theme promoted by magazines, late-night talk shows and Twitter.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

A Republican source close to Trump told The Daily Beast confirmed this level of insecurity over Bannon\u2019s reputation coming from the president, and mentioned that the president was \u201cirked\u201d after catching a glimpse of a recent cold-open on Saturday Night Live<\/i><\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Bannon was depicted as a Grim Reaper character who manipulates Alec Baldwin\u2019s President Trump into sowing global chaos and diplomatic breakdown. At the end of the scene, \u201cBannon\u201d tells Trump to give him his Oval Office desk<\/a> back. Baldwin\u2019s Trump calls the Reaper \u201cMr. President,\u201d and then proceeds to go sit at his own much smaller, shorter desk<\/a>, where the president plays with a kid\u2019s toy instead of governing.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
