{"id":71028,"date":"2017-04-10T16:06:20","date_gmt":"2017-04-10T20:06:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=71028"},"modified":"2017-04-10T16:07:47","modified_gmt":"2017-04-10T20:07:47","slug":"donald-trumps-biggest-fans-desert-him-over-syria-air-strikes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=71028","title":{"rendered":"Donald Trump&#8217;s biggest fans desert him over Syria air strikes"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>The decision to launch air strikes on Syria marks a major U-turn from the president&#8217;s previous policies<\/h3>\n<p><!--more-->Andrew Griffin<br \/>\nINDEPENDENT<\/p>\n<p>Many of Donald Trump\u2019s most prominent fans have abandoned him after <a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/americas\/us-tomahawk-missiles-syria-reports-latest-donald-trump-homs-bashar-al-assad-russia-a7671411.html\">his decision to launch air strikes on Syria<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In what was a quick and extreme U-turn from previous positions, Mr Trump ordered US missile launches at an air base in the country, in response to a chemical weapons attack. It represented a break from many of Mr Trump\u2019s campaign positions, primarily a promise that he would focus on \u201cAmerica first\u201d\u00a0and oppose intervention elsewhere in the world.<\/p>\n<p>That has led supporters to abandon the president, saying they would no longer support or vote for Mr Trump. Many accused him of conducting the same policies that would have been instituted by Hillary Clinton, while others suggested that he had lied or was having his decisions made by other parts of the US state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI guess Trump wasn\u2019t \u2018Putin\u2019s\u00a0puppet\u2019\u00a0after all, he was just another deep state\/Neo-Con puppet,\u201d\u00a0wrote Paul Joseph Watson, a British vlogger who works at Alex Jones\u2019s Infowars website. \u201cI\u2019m officially OFF the Trump train.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Watson said that he would instead divert his attention to Marine Le Pen, the French far-right politician who he said \u201ctried to warn Trump against this disaster\u201d. He then sent another tweet directly to Mr Trump that read: \u201cAmericans didn\u2019t vote for you to intensify Hillary\u2019s disastrous foreign policy\u201d\u00a0and included a link to one of Ms Clinton\u2019s speeches.<\/p>\n<div class=\"inline-block inline-block-related-single inline-block-left\" data-nid=\"\/news\/world\/middle-east\/us-air-strikes-syria-live-latest-updates-news-airbase-donald-trump-bashar-al-assad-regime-russia-uk-a7671586.html\">\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/middle-east\/us-air-strikes-syria-live-latest-updates-news-airbase-donald-trump-bashar-al-assad-regime-russia-uk-a7671586.html\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/s3\/files\/styles\/readmore_card\/public\/thumbnails\/image\/2017\/04\/07\/07\/missile-strike-syria.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"content\">\n<h2>US strikes Syrian regime airbase after chemical attack &#8211; live<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Cassandra Fairbanks, a prominent Trump supporter and online activist, also said that she might stop supporting Mr Trump. She said that she was \u201ctrying to remain hopeful\u201d, but that \u201cthis is too far\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am devastated,\u201d\u00a0she wrote. \u201cThis isn\u2019t who we voted for.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"mediaembed\">\n<div><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/w.graphiq.com\/w\/3Yh3Wf53eiV\" width=\"600\" height=\"638\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Many other less prominent Twitter users scolded Mr Trump for having opposed intervention in the past and now having committed to it. He said that Mr Obama was only considering launching similar attacks because his polling numbers were low \u2013 though his approval ratings were higher than Mr Trump&#8217;s now historically low numbers.<\/p>\n<p>Others pointed to old tweets from Mr Trump\u2019s supporters, including Sean Hannity.
